David Ruddy Obituary

David P. Ruddy, 51, of Windsor, beloved husband of Kimberly (Tavares) Ruddy, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, January 14, 2019. Born in Kearny, NJ to Judith Ruddy and the late James Ruddy, he has been a Windsor resident for the last 17 years. David was one of a kind. He had a mechanical mind and an artist's heart. He was tenacious and had a work ethic that was unparalleled. He had the kindest soul and would often drop everything to help out a friend, or even a stranger for that matter. He was known for his MacGyver level skills and could fix anything. He loved using his hands, whether it be in his garage shop or in his yard. He spent years building custom kitchens and bathrooms and later transitioned those skills into trade show displays and enjoyed manipulating materials no mere mortal would ever attempt. David earned a fine arts degree from UConn with a double major in photography and sculpture. He shared this passion for art as a founding member of Abominog Intl, and was instrumental in orchestrating iron pours that allowed the general public to create their own works of art. An avid skier, David spent many a day on the slopes, thinking of Killington, VT, as his home away from home. In last 3 ½ years of his life, David tirelessly battled colon cancer which he did so with grace and dignity, all the while working full time for Jason Enterprises, in South Windsor. He never once wavered in his desire to fight and his focus and determination was nothing less than inspiring. His one pride and joy was his son, Nicholas, and they spent many an hour working on their organic garden together, creating art, and just being inseparable. Besides his wife Kimberly of Windsor, he is survived by his mother Judith Ruddy of Madison; his son Nicholas Ruddy of Windsor; his sister Michele Rollins and her husband Timothy of Old Lyme; his brother Michael Ruddy and his wife Nikole of Storrs; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. His family will receive friends on Saturday, January 19 at 1 PM at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave Poquonock, followed by a time of sharing at 2 PM. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to the Nicholas Ruddy Education Fund C/O Windsor Federal Savings, Attn: Customer Svc Dept, 250 Broad St. Windsor, CT 06095. Kim and Nick, My deepest condolences. Kim and I worked together for a relatively short time but almost immediately I heard about Dave and his fight. Kim shared many wonderful stories about Dave and his love for his family, especially Nick. Dave was a true champion and a special man that I know will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved him.
