Edward Sharkevich Obituary

Edward J. Sharkevich, 75, of Hartford, died Tuesday, (March 18, 2003) at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born August 2, 1927, in Hartford, son of the late Steven and Catherine (Senyk) Sharkevich. He retired from Carlin company of Windsor where he was a machine shop supervisor. He also worked for many years at Fenn Mfg. in Newington. He was a communicant of St. Luke's, Hartford. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Sophie (Hawran) his Sweetie . Ed could not have made it this far in life without the love, support, constant care and dedication she gave him throughout their married life. They were made for each other. He also leaves five children and nine grandchildren, sons: Steven and his wife Rose of Cromwell, Gary and his wife Debbie of Wethersfield and Robert of Wethersfield; daughters: Cathi Gulliksen and her husband George of Marlborough and Karyn Letizio and her husband Vincent of Wethersfield; grandchildren (Papa's pride and joy): Corri, Ashley, Gary Jr., Robert Jr., and Kristy Sharkevich, John and Laura Gulliksen and Britney and Matthew Letizio. Special times were spent with his wife, going to the casino and playing bingo. the Lord has now called the final bingo number, "0-75", his age. Ed had a love for fishing including times with his grandson, Matthew. He enjoyed camping and weekend picnics (even on the side of the highway) with his family and showing us all how to build the perfect campfire. You could always count on Ed after enjoying a delicious holiday meal or get together, muttering his favorite saying, "Good Country". He will be best remembered by his grandchildren for mastering the removal of their little splinters. Right, Corri? He also leaves a sister, Mary Pane of Wethersfield, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael Sharkevich, Paul Sharkevich and his sister, Anne D'Engenis. To all the doctors who have performed their medical wisdom and magic for Ed, some for many years; Dr. Donald Ruffett, Dr. Henry Low, Dr. Rocco Orlando, Dr. John Foster, Dr. Michael Hallisey, Dr. Jonathan Tress, Dr. Jeffrey Kluger, Dr. Christopher Clyne, and Dr. William Laakso just to name a few. Also, all of the medical staff who provided him with kind and compassionate care. The family sends a special Thank You to each one of you from the bottom of our hearts. "You are the best he could have had." Friends may call Friday, March 21, 4-8 p.m. at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 22, 9 a.m. at St. Luke's Church, Bolton St., Hartford. Burial will be at the Mount St. Benedict Cemetery. Our deepest sympathy to the entire Sharkevich family.

There are no words that can make you feel better, but know that in time, it does get a little easier.

My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary back in 1994, and we were fortunate to have both Ed & Sophie attend. (Eddie was an usher at my parent's wedding back in 1944 and had not seen him since, so it was a special time indeed for all.)

My dad has since passed on - now he and Eddie can create more havoc together.
