ROSS, Eulalia Eulalia Ross, 89, died Monday, (August 29, 2005) in West Hartford. Born in Mexico City to Jeannette (Lafitte) and Julian Azorlosa, she was affectionately know as Lala. Moving with her family to Los Angeles, CA at the age of three, she earned both her BA and MA in Spanish at UCLA, where she met her future husband, Richard Washburn Ross (1916-2004,) also a linguist. Eulalia began her career teaching Spanish and French at Beverly Hills High School. Married in 1941, the couple spent World War II in Annapolis, MD, where Richard was a Naval Lieutenant and instructor of foreign languages at the U.S. Naval Academy. After the war, Richard became one of the first simultaneous interpreters for the United Nations, and the family moved first to Westbury, and then to Manhasset, Long Island. Eulalia returned to teaching, and taught French and Spanish at Manhasset High School for over 20 years. After retirement, she and Richard realized their dream of building a home overlooking the Mediterranean Ocean at Balcón al Mar, Jávea, Spain. In their later years they divided their time between homes in Sarasota, FL and Connestee Falls, NC. Their last home was in West Hartford. Eulalia is survived by her three children, Leslie A. Wherry of McLean, VA, Charles L. Ross of West Hartford, and Lynn C. Fullshire of Shoreham, NY; and by eight grandchildren, Richard and Marsha Wherry; Anna Ross Berg, Fionnuala, and Charlotte Ross; and Paul, Ross and Drew Fullshire. The family thanks the staff of Hamilton Heights, and Dr. Pickering and the staff of Hughes Convalescent Home in West Hartford, as well as Dr. Noterogulu and the wonderful nurses at the UConn Hospital. A private ceremony will be held at a future date. Internment will be beside her husband at St. Anselm's Episcopal Church in Shoreham, NY.
