Not sure what to say?

October 1, 2011

There is nothing I can say to ease the pain of your loss. But I do want you to know that it's people like Gene who've kept our nation safe and given our family security during the many challenges we've faced as a nation and as a world. He truly spent his life keeping democracy safe. I know that this service has not been given without sacrifice both on his part and on the part of you, his family and friends! With out cliche' I must once again reiterate that a grateful nation salutes you! With many Thanks, the Babbitt family of Preston Connecticut.

Most of my time spent with Buddy was as kids. He was my cool cousin from the city and would come up to Maine in the summer to visit. He used to bring his mini bikes and we would ride around the pototo fields on them. We would roll down our grandmothers grassy front lawn and stay outside well after dark playing tag, riding bikes or visiting the animals in the pasture. We would get a kick out of seeing all the dead bugs that were on the front of his parent's car after the drive from CT. Even though we didn't see each other often I felt a special connection to Bud. My heart goes out to his family - I know how much they loved him and will miss him. Rest in peace Bud, I'm so sad that you're gone.

Growing up Buddy was just 2 houses away on Greenway Place and being only a year older we spent a lot of time together. I am sure he up in Heaven with my mother yelling at him now. After school and between tours in the Military he worked for me and always had a great story and a laugh to go along with that big smile on his small face. Through the years he would always stop by and say hello and more recently he would pop up on facebook for a quick chat. He loved his family but he loved serving his country even more. It was sad when he could not serve anymore but his heart was always in the right place. We always joked that Buddy was a bad influence on himself so he started be called Gene. I always asked people if they knew him as Gene or Buddy and we always joked about that. Everyone that knows him will agree he did more for everyone than he did himself. We will always remember him and that special story, laugh or that big smile. Life can be so hard, but his special memories help us get through. Remembering Buddy and your loved ones today and forever, till we meet again.
