George Patterson Obituary

George was born and grew up in New Milford, Connecticut. After serving in the Army in Panama, George married his high school sweetheart Eleanor Smith, graduated from the University of Maine, and began a family and a banking career in Connecticut.

George found joy in sailing, and he spent many years sailing with Ellie and teaching navigation. He and Ellie eventually retired to Maine to pursue their love of sailing along the Maine coast. Woodworking was a lifelong hobby and George made many wooden toys, furniture, and art pieces. Always involved in his community, George took a strong volunteer spirit to the many organizations in which he served. For several years, he helped supervise the restoration of the Elijah Kellogg Congregational Church in Harpswell, Maine.

George was gregarious and funny and will be missed. He is survived by his children George (Laura) Patterson and Eileen (Mark) Miller, his grandson and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A small memorial service was held at Sunday January 28, 2024, at Cambridge Village of Apex, in Apex NC. If desired, donations may be made to the Restore Habitat for Humanity in Apex, https://www.trianglerestores.org/apex.
