Jan Schuck Obituary

Jan A. Schuck, 85, of Plantation Oaks of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully with his wife Gail of 61 years by his side on December 24, 2023. Known by friends and family as "Schuckie", he lived a wonderful and accomplished life!

Born on August 23, 1938, in Hartville, Ohio. Jan was the son of Robert and Willavene Maurer Schuck. He graduated from Hartville High School where he served as class president. After graduation he served in the Connecticut Army National Guard Reserves. Jan pursued higher education at Heidelberg College in Ohio and at the University of Hartford earning his BSBA.

Jan began his professional career as Manager for the Bloomfield House, in Bloomfield CT and later worked as a Gallery Showroom Specialist for Ethan Allen company and eventually transitioned into medical sales where he enjoyed a great deal of success working for Tyco International managing territories in the Northeast and in Southern California, retiring at the age of 68.

Jan & Gail built their 1st home together in East Hartford, CT and had 4 children and 9 grandchildren and raised their children mainly in West Hartford, CT. Together, he & Gail spent over 20 years living aboard their 43-foot, 1969 beautiful Chris-Craft boat, the "Sea Don" in Long Beach, CA. Before moving back to Connecticut in 2010, they lived in Leisure World in Seal Beach, CA and then resided in East Hartford, CT for six years before relocating to Ormond Beach, FL two & half years ago.

Schuckie had a real zest for life and enjoyed traveling with Gail in their motor-home all across the United States. He loved to tell a good joke, talk sports & politics, really enjoyed his cigars and was a passionate Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns fan. He also loved golfing and cooking; and was renowned for his Tomahawk steaks on the grill, and most importantly spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren.

Jan is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, the former Gail Calabrese, four children: Jan Scott (Christine) Schuck of West Hartford, CT; Todd (Lisa) Schuck of Glastonbury, CT; Craig Schuck of Colchester, CT; and Amy (Billy) Errett of Redondo Beach, CA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Nicholas (Mikayla), Caroline, Ethan, Ryan, Kyleigh and Audrey Schuck; and Remy, Ryleigh and Liam Errett. Additionally, he leaves behind one brother, Joel (Judy) Schuck of West Hartford, CT and a brother-in-law, Bob Patton of Irvine, CA. Jan is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Alice Patton.
