John Webster Obituary

John Webster, of Newington, CT, husband, father, grandfather, coach, colleague and mentor, faithful servant of the Lord, died March 15, 2021 after a valiant battle with neuroendocrine cancer. John is survived by his wife, Lorraine, his son, Erik(Kim), granddaughter, Samantha and her mother, Jennifer(George), his daughter, Amy Meschi(Bob) and grandchildren, Victor, Rose and Clare. He is predeceased by his sister, Joan O'Hara, brother in law, Robert Pluto and infant son John Joseph. John was born in Amsterdam, NY to William Webster and Betty(O'Connor)Webster. He graduated from Danbury High School as a track star holding state records in the hurdles. He went on to graduate from CCSU with a degree in Physical Education and a Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. He returned to CCSU as a teacher, track coach and founder of the men's soccer program. John was an influential educator and coach who served as mentor, role model, inspiration and advisor to all who encountered him, players, students and colleagues alike. The breadth and depth of his commitment to his career and family leaves behind many who were touched by his compassion, expectation and encouragement. John's legacy on and off the field resulted in his election to both the CCSU Athletic Hall of Fame and CT State Soccer Hall of Fame. John retired from coaching in 1986 and teaching in 2003. To describe John as a devoted husband and father is an understatement. He was happiest when his family was together sharing time traveling, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, attending sporting events, spending time on the soccer field and tending their home. His life was enriched by the addition of his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. His grandchildren will treasure all of the memories of special time spent with Grandpa. In his retirement, John enriched his faith through Bible Study and enjoyed golfing, fishing and oil and watercolor painting. John was a long time parishioner of St. Mary's Church, active in many ministries, and later attended mass regularly at the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield. He was known as a man of deep faith and great love. He will be missed by all those who knew him. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 19th from 3pm-7pm at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held DIRECTLY at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St. Wethersfield CT on March 20th at 10 am. John's burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held for all in the summer, details will be shared as available. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcome in John's name to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Franciscan Home Care & Hospice or to a charity of your choice.

Really sorry for the loss of John and sorry for the late condolences, we just heard. John was best friends with my father, Anthony Corvino, when they both attended Danbury High School. John was gracious enough to drive down for my father´s funeral in 2007 and he was able to share with me some great stories about my Dad. God bless John and god bless the Webster Family.
