René Veilleux Obituary

VEILLEUX, René A., Sr. René A. Veilleux, Sr., 77, of Niantic, died Thursday, (July 31, 2008) at home after a long battle with Parkinson's. Born in Beauceville, Quebec, Canada on July 8, 1931, son of the late Irene Veilleux and Marianne (Poulin) Veilleux, he had lived in South Windsor for many years before moving to Niantic 15 years ago. René came to the United States in 1960 not speaking English but was determined to succeed. He became a prominent drywall contractor and developer building homes throughout Connecticut and employing hundreds with his companies Yankee Building Products, René Drywall as well as Veilleux and Son Builders. He was a member of the Rotary Club of South Windsor and Glastonbury and the Home Builders Association. René was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time cutting wood. He was especially fond of boating, being on the ocean and having good times with friends. After retiring, René also spent a lot time in Spanish Lakes, FL where he liked bowling, golfing and sunning himself on the beach. He leaves his children, Linda Cloutier and her husband Benoit of Broad Brook, Daniel Veilleux and his wife Tina of South Glastonbury, Donald Veilleux of San Francisco, CA, Michael Veilleux and his wife Suzanne of South Glastonbury, René Veilleux, Jr. and his husband Donald Lopez of Los Angeles, CA; and his life partner, Linda Squires of Niantic; two brothers, Omer Giroux of Stafford Springs and Bruno Giroux of Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Laurena Veilleux and Jeanette Pommerleau, both of Quebec, Canada; six grandchildren, Monique and Natalie Cloutier and Alex, Jeremie, Zachary and Maxim Veilleux; many nieces and nephews and his former wife, Louisette (Veilleux) Veilleux. He was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Veilleux; a brother, Dennis Giroux; three sisters, Blanche Jacques, Marriette Quiron and Beth Matthews; and two close brothers-in-law, Yvon Veilleux and Raymond Veilleux. Family and friends may gather Tuesday, 9 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will be private in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. His family will receive friends Monday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home.
