Roger Chapman Obituary
Roger Stevens Chapman, a longtime resident of Madison, CT, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015 at the age of 87. Born on December 3, 1927 in Hartford, CT he was the son of the late Roger and Katherine Chapman. Predeceased by Viola, his wife of more than 50 years, Roger is survived by son David (Karen) Chapman, daughter Ellen (John) Schilling, brothers Robert and Richard Chapman, and grandchildren Katherine and Andrew Chapman. A 1949 engineering graduate of Cornell University, Roger spent the remainder of his life enjoying the challenges of his chosen field and is the holder of several patents. After serving as an officer in the Army Corp of Engineers, Roger worked for A.S. Wickstrom, Savin Brothers, C.W. Blakeslee and Westinghouse Electric before teaming up with Vincent Arpaia to found Blakeslee Arapia Chapman, Inc. in 1976. Roger was a devoted parishioner at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, an avid reader (particularly U.S. History), traveler, and gardener. He particularly enjoyed taking walks with his wife and their Old English Sheepdogs as well as regaling family & friends with many an entertaining story. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Guilford Funeral Home 115 Church Street Guilford, CT. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 232 Durham Road, Madison, CT. Burial service with Military Honors will follow at Tabor Cemetery in Branford, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. David & Family; We are so very sorry to hear about Roger's passing. We were away and not able to attend services. We will always remember his stories and his Christmas vest and tie that he always wore to the Christmas parties ! He will be missed and we will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Roger will be deeply missed by the design and construction community. He was smart, practical, professional and could always be relied upon for good advice when some of us younger guys were designing something we wanted to make sure was constructible. Rest in peace dear friend, mentor and colleague.

Vince and I were so saddened to learn of Roger's passing. He is the first of the Chapman first cousins to leave the family. I know he will be greatly missed. I always got a kick out of his dry sense of humor and his tails of falling asleep during church and after the service telling the minister he liked his sermon.
