Steven Shusterman Obituary

Steven B. Shusterman (Steve), 69, originally of West Hartford, passed away on December 29, 2023 as a result of a COVID-19 infection and underlying conditions. Steve was born on March 1, 1954 in Hartford, CT to the great joy of his parents, the late Elvira Previtali and Samuel Shusterman. Steve was a devoted husband to his wife Joanie Shusterman, a quirky and fun father and grandfather, a beloved brother, and a selfless friend and neighbor. Steve appreciated the little things in life that make it great, like a hot cup of coffee, warm pet greetings, the spotting of a cool car or motorcycle, and the chance to pick up an awesome guitar. His loss is deeply felt by his family who loved him dearly.

Steve graduated from Hall High School and the University of Hartford, and enjoyed a career in marketing and direct mail. In recent years, Steve was able to retire and participate in a quieter life in Newington and then Broad Brook, CT with his wife. In his youth, Steve loved nothing more than lounging on the beach in Wildwood, NJ and putting his feet in the cool ocean, splashing the salty water on his face. For years Steve's steady companion was Sindar, a giant black Newfoundland dog, that Steve showed to become a Champion. Steve cared for and loved a menagerie of creatures throughout his life including dogs, cats, lizards, fish, frogs, birds and parrots to the delight of his children and family. Throughout his life, Steve found solace and happiness listening to The Beatles and George Harrison and playing his guitars.

Steve is survived by his wife Joanie Shusterman of Broad Brook, CT; his children, Samantha Shusterman and her husband Carl Nilsson of Arlington, MA and Thomas and his wife Amy Shusterman of Newington, CT; three grandchildren, Rosalie Vera and Richard Jon Nilsson and Nathan Dean Shusterman; his brothers, Allan and his wife Joan Shusterman of Stony Creek, NY, and Robert and his wife Karen Shusterman of Hull, MA; and his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Shusterman of Essex, CT, Jason Shusterman of Manchester, CT, Hillary Shusterman of Quincy, MA, and Colton Shusterman of Hull, MA.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on January 11, 2024 at the Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Human Society. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.molloyfuneralhome.com

Not a day goes by that I don´t think about you, miss you and love you! I miss your smile and your jokes and basically I just miss you! I am still keeping busy and June 4th was a very emotional day, because we would´ve been married 25 years and together 30 years, but you´re watching over me and always in my heart! Your wife Joanie
