Mrs. Pierce,
I am very saddened to hear of your loss - my condolences to you and your family.
I had the honor of taking chemistry my sophomore year at Xavier with Mr. Pierce. Chemistry was not at all "my thing," but it did not matter - your husband always managed to spread the enthusiasm and joy that he had for life to his students. Mr. Pierce was not just an outstanding teacher, he was a true mentor and friend to myself and to many at Xavier. This was evident day in and day out. I am comforted knowing how many students, faculty, and friends he inspired there when I knew him.

Mrs. Pierce,
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind always be at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields and
Until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
Best of wishes for you and your family during this difficult time.

Terry;
I am at a loss for words, I missed the opportunity to say good-bye to Tom on Friday night and/or Saturday but you are in my thoughts and prayers.
You and the children have many, many memories but for me the thing that I see when I remember Tom is his warm, genuine smile.
I will pray for God to help you through this loss.

Dear Terry and family - I have many fond memories of serving on the Xavier faculty with Tom back in the '70's. Long before the brothers adopted the sponsorship model, he embodied the highest ideals of collaboration in mission. He was a wonderful teacher who had a life-long impact on the boys to whom he was so devoted. My prayers are with you.

Mr. Pierce was the teacher you wrote about in essays about who has most impacted you as you grew up. He was an amazing role model for so many of us in learning to be true Xavier men--loving, generous, patient, kind, gracious--what it meant to be a husband, teacher, mentor, friend and outstanding all-around human.
My heartfelt condolences to his family.
