Kimberly Thomas Obituary

Kimberly Kay (Loney) Thomas

Iowa City

Kimi Kay was born April 24, 1974 in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Linda. Kim graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, Kim began a lifelong career at the University of Iowa Hospital as an RN, always giving comfort and care to those who needed her. Working many long, hard hours but always doing what she loved - helping others. Kim was very accomplished and adept in her field. She took an active role on several committees including the Shared Governance Committee/Staff Nurse Consultant Panel. Kim had been nominated numerous times for the Daisy Award. She received an accreditation for Medical Surgical Nursing RN-BC in 2012. Kim volunteered her time at Thanksgiving on the children's oncology floor serving self-prepared meals to families to assure her love of family and unity. She gave of herself in every aspect of her life and was loved and highly praised by her patients as well as her coworkers. Kim gained her angel wings Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the age of 39 and is now at peace, fully resting with the Lord.

She is survived by her sons, Chris and Joshua Thomas; mother, Linda (Jim) Delin; siblings, Robert (Karen) Loney, Leanna (Marty) Kennebeck, Brenda (Dave) Loney, Brad (Katrina) Loney; sister and best friend, Mary Anne (Gasole) Killin; great-grandmother, Leota Delin; father of her children, Caleb Thomas; step siblings; nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Loney and her grandparents.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mon., Jan. 6, 2014 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines. Many thanks to all of you that have taken the time to make it a little easier for my family and me to get through the minutes, hours and days. Your kindness and words does somehow make it a little easier. I am so thankful to know that she was loved and respected in the workplace and to know she had so many friends that loved her. I will be forever grateful for your support through our loss of Kimi. I can only hope that each of you find comfort in knowing that Kim loved working with her co-workers and truly enjoyed her profession. We will greatly miss her. Linda Delin Kimi's mother

I was blessed to be a coworker of Kim's. She came to work with a smile on her face, and an attitude to match. She was one of my favorites, and a wonderful RN. She was always helpful & genuinely a positive influence for all. We often talked about our boys, and she simply adored them. Kim will be greatly missed.

I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Kim through the University of Iowa. I rode up in the elevator on our way to work with her not two weeks ago and hold that encounter close to my heart as the last time I had a moment with her. She always had a smile and a friendly disposition. She will forever be well remembered and missed by all who knew her. I am so sorry for the loss of Kim. May she rest in peace.

I was privileged to work closely for several years with Kim. She was unfailingly kind and compassionate, and worked so hard to provide the best care to her patients. She was never satisfied with mediocrity and was a source of inspiration for me and her co-workers. It would be impossible to calculate how many lives she touched and the positive difference she has made in this world. She loved her boys very much and would just light up when she talked about them. Kimberly was one of the sweetest women I have ever known and she will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all those she loved and left behind.
