May God bless my 1st SGT while in the 3rd of the 325, 82nd ABN! Previously, he was my platoon SGT. Legend has it, he was 17 in NAM with the 173rd ABN on a M60!!! Anyway, on Oct 24th of 1983, I saw him on a Scout Jeep, manning the M60 for the platoon he was in charge of, made me proud beyond words! Since he was previously my platoon SGT I knew when you looked into his been there, done that blue eyes, he was 100% leading by example born to be back what he did best! And for that, we longed to follow! He was a great man & he lives with me in my heat! Best regards, Simply A. Soldier!!!

I was blessed to have served with 1sergeant Lane in Vicenza Italy in the mid to late 80s with the 3/325th A.B.C.T He was the best 1ST Sergeant you could´ve had, he was Tough but fair and was a great NCO, I would follow him to Combat anytime and anywhere, I was saddened to hear of his passing, I still think about the way he could call cadence and push troops, he was as good as they get, awesome human being, RIP Top! SGT Allen Berg, ALL THE WAY! AIRBORNE!!!

I had the pleasure and honor to serve with 1SG Lane for over 6 years in the 82d ABN and Vicenza, Italy. He was my mentor and roll model. He always had time to guide me, provide advice and counsel. He was a true professional in every sense of the word. The Army was stronger and more disciplined through his dedication and insistence for perfection. His influence carried me through 27 years in the Army, where I often asked myself, what would 1SG Lane do? He will be sadly missed, but if mentorship will continue on.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of SGM Larry Lane. I only knew him through his final assignment in the U.S. Army, when he served as Senior Army Advisor for the Iowa Army National Guard. He was a hard-charger, definitely went the extra mile to ensure the best training opportunities for Soldiers, and represented the NCO Creed, "No one is more professional than I. I am a non-commissioned officer, a leader of Soldiers..." He spoke his mind, had the respect of those with whom he served, and gave a great deal to our Nation. God bless Larry Lane & his family.
