ALMA KIDD Obituary

ALMA MARIE KIDD, 100, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away peacefully at Cabell Health Care Center. She was born December 16, 1916, in Talladega, Ala. For over 100 years, God gave Alma an earthly dwelling place. Then on February 13, 2017, He whispered to her, "Alma, my precious child," and she answered, "yes, Lord," and He said, "are you ready to come home?" Her tired soul answered, "yes, Lord," and her spirit leaped for joy and He said, "take my hand," and instantly she was resting in the bosom of the Lord. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Alter James Kidd Jr. and Lillie Mae Headen Kidd; four sisters, Ida Kidd, Emmette Kidd Ellington, Ruth Kidd Vestal and Gloria Kidd Mans; three brothers, Arthur Kidd, Samual Kidd and Welma Kidd. In 1941, Alma moved from Logan, W.Va., to Huntington, W.Va. She worked for the Kurzman family for a number of years before being employed by the C&P Telephone Co. (Verizon) and retired from there after 23 years of service. Alma organized and managed the "Lifeline" program through the Huntington Police Department for 10 years, volunteered and assisted with children enrolled in the First Baptist Church Child Development Center. Alma has been a member of First Baptist Church (Pastor Donté Jackson) for more than 65 years. Alma leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Dr. Alter Kidd Jr. of New York City, N.Y.; two children, India Marie Rudolph Hughes of Columbus, Ohio, and Rick Martin (Dewana) of Dunbar, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Dana Hill (Eric), Patrice Hughes, both of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew Martin (Stephanie) of Morgantown, W.Va., and Briana Martin of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; four great-granddaughters, Morgan, Marley, Jasmine and Ivy. Also surviving are 15 nieces and nephews and many loving friends. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, February 18, 2017, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Donté Jackson officiating. Family will welcome friends one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Online condolences may be expressed at www.ferrell-chambersfuneralhome.com.

Rick and family,
My deepest sympathy on your loss. I have nothing but the most fond memories of Mrs Kidd. I always thought of her as my second mom.
She lived a long and fruitful life.

Best regards- Don "Bimbo" Ross

Rickie and Family, I am sorry for the loss of your amazing mother. I will always remember her for her beautiful smile and although it has been many years since I last seen her, I remember laughing and talking with her at Tradewell and the other grocery stores. You and her smiled just alike. GOD gave her a good long time on earth and I know she is in the " Upper Room" with her family and loved ones. Thank God for her. I am sincerely yours..
