Adam Carter Obituary

DECATUR - Adam Walter Carter, 12 of Decatur, entered his eternal life at 11:33 PM Friday, April 23, 2010 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Adam's life will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Joseph Molloy, presider. Visitation will be held from 3 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family School, Make a Wish Foundation or to the family to be used for a memorial at the St. John's Pediatric Floor. Online condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com. Adam was born on January 13, 1998 in Decatur, the son of Timothy W. and Shannon E. (Hayes) Carter. He was a sixth grader at Holy Family School where he had been elected outstanding Christian by his fellow students since kindergarten. Adam loved the St. Louis Cardinals, the Kansas City Chiefs and listening to music. He hoped to learn to play his new drum set that he received from the Blue Star Connection. He was active in the Decatur Catholic Dawgs Football and South Shores Baseball programs. Adam was an extremely giving person whose strong faith and prayerful attitude has been an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to know him. Adams memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He was blessed with a wonderful family that includes his parents: Tim and Shannon, sister: Maegan at home, paternal grandparents: Walter and Barbara Carter of Decatur, aunts and uncles: Phyllis Stapleton and husband Jim of Sherman, Gayle Heneghan and husband Mike of Forsyth, Kathy Kirby and husband Gary of Decatur, Cindi Salzman and husband Bill of Peoria, Francie Brown and husband Don of Decatur, Pat Hayes and wife Stacy of Decatur, Mary Jane Hayes of Decatur, Sean Hayes and wife Monica of Moweaqua, Loni Furry and husband John of Forsyth and Curt Carter and wife Kathy of Mt. Zion, numerous cousins, a host of friends, his loving English Bulldog- Albert and his Golden Retriever Mac. Adam was greeted in Heaven by his maternal grandparents: Laurence and Bernadine Hayes and his uncle Kevin Hayes. The Carter family will be forever grateful for the many prayers, thoughts and acts of kindness by so many. Special thanks goes to Dr. Brandt and Dr. Niebrugge and nurses Justine, Kelly, Carol and all of the pediatric nurses, especially Teri Pillsbury for everything they have done to support Adam. The family would also like to thank the St. Louis Children's Hospital for all of their kindness. Heaven is a little brighter today because of Adam's smile. Adam will live on in the hearts of those whom he loved and loved him forever. Obituary written by family members. Online guest book at www.legacy.com/herald-review/Obituaries.asp

An Angel Speaks
Shed no tears because I'm gone,
I'm not that far, God called me home.
I was yours for just a short while,
Sent by God to brighten your smile.
To share your life and bring you love,
From your heavenly Father above.
I was sent to open your heart,
To his many wonders of which you are part.
Cherish the time that we shared tho brief,
Feel the love left behind, shed the grief.
Within your heart I will always remain,
Till the time comes we meet again.
Remember me always with a smile not a tear,
Just look toward the heaven's I'm waiting here.
Trust in God we'll be together again,
To share a love that knows no end.

Sorry to read about Adam. Heaven has another angel and Cardinal fan like our mom. Now "Ozzie" has someone to hang out with on the fence.

April 26, 2010

We didn't know Adam personally, but have attended Christmas Mass at Holy Family with relatives when visiting from out-of-town...Father Molloy spoke so beautifully about Adam this past December when he introduced him at the mass and we couldn't help but be touched by what an incredible boy he was and by how valiantly he was fighting. Please accept our concolences and know that Adam is with the Lord and in that respect he certainly did win the fight. Sincerely, Karen & Bill Weatherford, Georgetown, Kentucky

I don't know Adam too well, but from what I heard from friends who knew him well, he sounds like he was the sweetest boy ever. So positive, so happy no matter what, and grateful. Well know it's sad to lose him, but just be happy for him, because he's done suffering. I'm sure he doesn't want any of us to be sad, but to be happy.
