Sorry that you had to go thru this, its only been 8 months ago since we buried Tony. I will keep you in my prayers. Continue to watch over his children especially now. Dewayne stay strong and remember you are never alone, you still got your friends that are like brothers out there, they will never take the place of Derrick or Tony they will always have that special place in our heart that no one can take. Derrick, I really don't know what to say! I know Tony was waiting at the Pearly Gates for you. I know you see that the streets are paved with Gold. We dealt with something like this 8months ago I was not ready for this. You had alot of family and friends, the church was packed, for your homegoing. Tell Tony hello for me. I hope you guide your beautiful children in the right direction as you look over them. When is this going to stop? Dewayne thats my boy and I hope he be alright, you know he took it hard. I wanted to be there for him, but he had his girlfriend and that was an blessing she took good care of him. RIP and continue to look out for yall shorties.

I just want to say Derrick will always be in my heart and memories. I will never forget the time when Derrick, Jackie and me were into playing pranks on one another. Derrick knew I hated hot things...so he made me a nice glass of Kool-aid and to my surprise it was a nice cold cup of hot sauce. My prayers go out to Auntie Emma. Love You.

Emma, we are so sorry about Derrick. It was a total shock to me and Antarius. Antarius reminded me that Derrick was the one that showed him how to flip without taking gymnastic on Sunset. Derrick will be missed and I pray that God give you and your family comfort at this time.

My condolences goes out to Dewayne, Emma, Tokara, Ny'ari, Iysis, and the rest of the Matthew's family. I can't even begin to know the pain and heartache you are going through, my deepest sympathy goes to all of you. And I know it's hard to bare right now and it's sad but sometimes he takes the best, I learned that when he called for my dad. I know you think you will miss him so and you'll never find your way. But soon you'll hear Derrick say "He's with you everyday" The sun, the wind, the moon, the stars, will forever be around, reminding you of all the memories ya'll shared and the peace he's finally found. Derrick was funny, kind,well just wounderful, and will be cherished by many.

First and foremost my heart goes out to the family of Derrick. He will be truly missed and was truly loved. The Lord has mysterious ways of working we, just as people should never question his motive for the Lord never puts more on us than we can bare. Derrick is with God now and one day we will all be reunited again. To Be ABSENT FROM THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD. I will truly miss him from the days we grew up together on Sunset St. from Woodrow Wilson to the Dog house on the corner we were friends. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.

This is to Emma, Dewayne, and all the Matthews. From the time I met you all in my stay in Decatur, I had noticed the strong bond that you all have as a family, and a friend to many you all are. I'ts times like these that mentally bring out the worst in us all emotionally. As you all have already experienced, it's hard to recover from a time like this and no words anyone can say can or will make it better, but Derrick left memories and lots of them. He had a mom and a family that loved him unconditionally and a lot of us don't have that! He had a girlfriend and kids that loved him to death also. So just take the time you have left and continue to love one another and reminisce on the memories together. You will have tears and laughs as well, but most importantly you will all have each other! Be thankful for Derricks life and the times you all shared, cause one thing about it you all had more time with him than anyone and you all got to know him better than any of us. My heart goes out to you all and you are and will be continually in my prayers!
