In 1974 I was 5 years old with my dad driving down Airport Road in Decatur. There was a guy and his little daughter in front of us on a motorcycle and we saw something fall off the bike and roll down the road. Dad stopped and told me to hop out of the car and get it. It was a Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal. I ran it over the people on the motorcycle who thanked me. It was Lance and Shani. I later met that Shani again in first grade and her family moved into my neighborhood just a couple houses away from mine. We became best friends right then and attended every year of school together all the way through 12th grade. Today, 50 years later I still consider Shani a dear and beloved friend. To me as a kid Lance was super cool, he had a motorcycle, he customized a van with carpet everywhere, swiveling captains chairs and a cool stereo, probably an 8 track, and he had a home stereo that was taller than me complete with a reel to reel tape machine. Lance and Becky´s house was like my second house back then and I was always welcome. There was always cool music playing in their house and I´m sure Lance influenced Shani´s love for music, who then turned me on to popular music at that time like the soundtrack to Rocky Horror and artists like The Blues Brothers and Billy Joel, a few favorites that stand out in my memory. All my love to Becky, Shani, Alec and Tronnie.
