Calvin Kay Obituary

KAY, CALVIN C. (DDS), 74 of Miami was called home to heaven November 4, 2008. This beloved husband, father, friend and dedicated Christian was a blessing to all who knew him. He was born in Anderson, South Carolina to Iva and Lillian Kay, moving to Miami as a young child. He was a graduate of Edison High School, University of Miami and University of Maryland Dental School. He loved the practice of Dentistry and his patients until his retirement in 1995. He was very active in his community, serving as President of Perrine Kiwanis Club, member of South Miami Hospital Advisory Board, educator and mentor at the Pankey Institute and the Lindsey Hopkins dental clinic. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but no activity in his life was more important than serving and working for the Lord through Old Cutler Presbyterian Church. He served as deacon, then became an elder and most recently served as Clerk of Session. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; beloved daughters, Gail Kay, Donna Rhoden, Rosanne Sanacore and Pamela Holland; five grandchildren, Calvin, Ryan and Lindsey Rhoden and Haley and Conrad Sanacore; sisters, Martha Goessling and Ann Zipse; as well as a loving extended family of nieces and nephews and hundreds of brothers and sisters- in-Christ. Memorial services will be held at Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, 14401 Old Cutler Road on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Old Cutler Presbyterian in the name of Calvin C. Kay would be graciously accepted. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Cal's life was a testimony to the love and grace of God. When Cal met Jesus on his own road to Damascus, the result was a miraculous transformation and a wholehearted and exuberent dedication to Christian service. Cal's life was changed as were the lives of all those he ministered to. Cal approached his life of Christian servanthood with the same energy and zeal that he exhibited in every facet of his life. He strove for excellence in everything he did. He was my friend for over 45 years. The comfort of knowing he is with the Lord does not remove the anguish of not having him with us. Sherry, you will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Kay Family:
I am so sad to learn of Dr. Kay's death. I was patient of his for at least 20 years. Then I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Kay on a project not too long ago and considered myself to be blessed to be able work with him after so many years. I will miss that soft southern accent and his true kindess. My heartfelt condolences to everyone in the Kay family.

I would just like to express my sorrow for your loss. I grew up with all the Kay girls since they lived behind us on 146 St. It is important to count the memories and know that in time you will meet at a greater place one day. Take Care, Bev

Dear Sherry,
I first met Calvin when I moved to Miami in 1943. We had many good times together, through elementary, junior and senior high school. Although I haven't seen him in a long time, I will always remember our times growing up in Miami. Jack Rabun

Sherry and the entire family,

You all have our deepest sympathy. Even though Cal was not part of our immediate family our lives have been so closely intertwined it feels as though we, too, have lost one of our own. I was fortunate to have spent the past fifteen years enjoying Cal’s company and fellowship up at hunting camp, and fishing the “back country” of Flamingo. I always admired Cal’s dedication, devotion and commitment to his church and to all of its members. No matter the circumstance, Cal always seemed to put his life second to those truly in need of comfort and assistance, regardless of the personal burden that effort may have imposed. We will miss his physical presence, but I believe we should all rest assured knowing that his spirit will continue to provide assistance to those in need of a prayer, kind word, or helping hand. Cal may be gone from our physical World, but he certainly will not be forgotten any time soon.

God bless,

Patrick, Laura & Nancy

Thoughts and prayers are with all of the family at this time. Dr. Kay was my dentist for many years during my childhood and was always patient and gentle with me. My fondest memory is that when somehow the discussion came up that I wanted to get my ears pierced, he volunteered to help. So right there in the office he pierced my ears and took great care to make certain that they were even and in the right place. Thank you Dr. Kay.

Dearest Sherry,
We had hoped to be with you to celebrate Cal"s life, but illness has made that impossible. We have shared some very good times together....remember the chickens under the sink in Ecuador? I shall forever be grateful for the hospital visits you paid us, the open love and caring of one another and the Lord you so generously shared with all. As I gaze at the splendor of the mountains before me, I am reminded that Cal is surrounded by so much more. May the Lord grant you His peace and fill the empty places in your heart May His blessings be upon you as well as your beautiful family.

Dear Sherry & family,
Our thoughts of Cal include-his devoted love for Sherry and family, his devotion, love, and service to the Lord, and his outdoorsmanship. Or as Joe says-he was a true 'Curt Gowdy'. We were both honored and blessed to know him. He truly did 'fight the good fight' and he 'finished the race' far ahead of the rest of us. Thank God we will see him again. And we will all have dinner again at God's table. Sherry, please remember that we are just around the corner. Literally.
With much Sympathy and Love,
Joe & Cindee Sirgany

Dear Sherry,

There are no words to share my sorrow for our temporary separation from Cal. You both have shown me real Christian love in action. Cal loved the Lord, his church and his church friends. I thank God for the blessing to have known both of you and how you have ministered to me.
My prayers will be with you and your family.
Cal, I will see you again. Thank you for your love and support.

Blessings
