Milton Caster Obituary

Milton Philip Caster

August 7, 1923 - March 21, 2025

Delray Beach, Florida - Milton P. Caster, M.D., F.A.C.S. 1923-2025.

Milton Philip Caster passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2025, at the youthful age of 101. A renaissance man and legend in the true sense of the words. He was a scholar, physician, veteran, community leader, entrepreneur, but most importantly, a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Milton was born in Utica, NY on August 7, 1923, to Blossom and Mortimer Caster. He graduated valedictorian from Townsend Harris High School in Manhattan in 1939, earned his B.S. degree from New York University in 1943 (at age 19, the youngest NYU B.S. graduate to date), and earned his M.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1949. He served stateside in the United States Air Force from 1943-45, and following his graduation from medical school on the GI bill, served as a Captain in the United States Air Force and Chief Medical Officer at USAF bases in England from 1950-52.

In 1953, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Teperson, on a blind date in New York. They were married 6 months later - a storybook marriage which lasted more than 68 years until Carolyn's passing in 2021. Following their honeymoon, they moved to Coral Gables, FL, where he completed his surgical residency training. In 1955, Milton and Carolyn settled in Hollywood, FL, where he started his surgical practice, and together they raised their family of three active boys and lived happily for more than 40 years. Milton and Carolyn participated in all aspects of the community, enjoying a robust social life with a tight-knit group of friends both in Hollywood and at Westview Country Club. In 1997, they relocated to Addison Reserve Country Club in Delray Beach, FL, where they enjoyed many wonderful years and made many new close friends.

Milton was a revered surgeon and had an extraordinary 40-year medical career. A leader in his field, he had the busiest surgical practice in Broward County for decades. Growing up, it was not uncommon for his sons to be greeted by friends and strangers alike, who would say gratefully "Your father saved my life". He served as President of the Broward County Medical Association (1970-71), Chief of Staff at Biscayne Medical Center, and Chief of Surgery for numerous years at Hollywood Memorial Hospital, Biscayne Medical Center, and Golden Isles Hospital. He was a member of the prestigious Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a rigorous standard of education, training, professional qualification, and ethical conduct.

Milton had numerous interests, and was an avid sportsman, adventurer, reader, and lifelong learner. He was active and mentally sharp until his last breath; exercising daily at the gym, attending adult education classes at FAU, regularly facetiming and playing online games with family, and hosting social and dining events with family and friends. He was passionate about people, loved a great party, and was the ultimate extrovert. He enjoyed spending summers in Aspen, CO and loved to travel. He and Carolyn traveled extensively around the world with friends and family, visiting remote and faraway places long before it was fashionable.

More than anything, Milton loved his family and took great pride in the accomplishments of each family member. He is survived by his three sons Andrew (Jacqueline), Richard (Cary), and Steven (Linda); his grandchildren Jennah (Matt), Barron (Melanie), Bryce (Maisie), Jocelyn (Alex), Lana, Amanda, and Melissa; his great grandchildren Mila and Maverick; sister-in-law Suzanne Gilbert; nieces Pamela Gilbert Remis (Richard) and Randi Gilbert Cutler (Joel); cousin Enid Rosenthal, cousin Judy Rosenbloom, their extended families, and numerous friends and patients over a lifetime. The family would like to give special thanks to Sharon Walters, for the wonderful care and attention she provided Milton in the last few years of his life.

Milton lived a charmed, prosperous, happy, and accomplished life a life that we would wish for everyone! He truly epitomized the American dream. His positive attitude and zest for life will be with us forever. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24th at 11 a.m. at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road in Boynton Beach. The family requests that donations be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County or the charity of your choice.

Even the blessed age of 101 seems too soon. To his beloved sons and their families, I send deepest sympathy. My parents Stan and Gloria loved the Casters and now the last tree in their generation has fallen. Milt died on Stan's birthday, and I am thinking of you all with caring thoughts and happy memories.
