Rick Duncan Obituary

DUNCAN RICK (CLAYTON F.), 54, left us on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at his home in Coral Gables, Florida after a long fight against kidney cancer. Originally from Bridge City, Texas, he attended the University of Missouri - Columbia where he graduated with a degree in Horticulture. He retired earlier this year from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture - ARS. During the recent past, he was deeply committed to Boy Scout Troop 1, where he served as Scoutmaster. His interest in spiritual growth was a defining part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Bridget; daughter, Heather Marie; son, Brian Lucas; his mother, Judy as well as his brothers, Clyde (Barbara), Charles (Manya); his sister, Phyllis (Jim Taylor), and many nieces and nephews. His oldest brother, Jim (Roxie) and his father, Arkie (Clyde Leslie) predeceased him. Rick had a never ending curiosity and a very special ability to see the good in everyone and nurture it. He will be forever missed by all that knew him for his gentle, kind and loving presence. Memorial services will be held Friday, September 13th at 12 noon at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 DeSoto Blvd., Coral Gables, FL, and on Saturday, September 21st at 12 noon at St. Paul's Methodist Church, 120 Bland Dr., Bridge City, TX. Dear Bridget and children,

I was shocked to learn of Rick's passing. I graduated with Rick, and thought he was a wonderful person. I remember seeing Rick act in a school play. He was so good and so funny. And I remember how he loved being a part of "The Cardinal Guards." My prayers are with you, I know he will be missed. I lost my daughter 3 years ago, and I know the pain of loss well. May you have peace knowing he is in the presence of the Lord.

Bridget, Heather & Luke,

It was great to know Rick through High School and a real pleasure to get to see him a couple of times before his passing. Rick's friendly and warm personality had not changed in those thirty odd years since we had seen each other. From talking with Rick in the hospital and on the phone it was obvious that he loved his family, and that his family loved him. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.

Bridget, Heather, & Luke:

Ricky, as I knew him, was a fun loving and genuinely nice person. We double dated many times, back in the 60's when that was a cool thing to do, and he gave me better driving lessons and the opportunity to practice even though his folks didn't know it. He was a real friend and the people that had an opportunity to know him were very fortunate indeed.

This is Wapiti, I am a friend of Butch's. I just wanted to say that I had a dream and my Grandma came to me and said that Rick arrived on eagle's wings and is with Creator now. Many hugs for the family...

I just found out about Rick's passing last night. I graduated with Rick from high school. He was always so friendly to everyone -- whether you "were someone" or not. I still remember that contagious smile and energetic personality. He'll never be forgotten.

Dear Bridget, Heather, & Luke,

I was a just a kid when you lived next door on Ferdinand. Even though it was a while back, I still have great memories of Rick. From everything I've heard, he continued to be a great guy and will be remembered fondly by many people. My prayers are with you.

Rick was the type of person in high school who would greet others with a genuine smile and warm word, if he knew them or not. He made a positive impact in H.S. and it seems continued to do so; he'll be missed.

Bridget and family:

Rick was a unique and special person with a wonderful since of humor. I remember the ad he placed when trying to sell his truck when we were in HS. I never heard anyone say anything bad about Rick. It is always hard to understand the order in which people come into our lives and leave. He touched a lot of people in this life, and now he must have something more important to do in another dimension. In some ways he will always be with us.

Even though I did not know Rick, I would have to say after reading about him that he is the type person we need more of. It saddens me to see someone like him leave us at such a young age. I found out about Rick due to me being a web master for our schools alumni web site; Rick, we will miss you.

Rick was one of my actors in high school. He brought concentration, depth, understanding and humor to his characters. And, apparently, to his life. He is a treasured memory.

When I think of Rick, two things come to mind--the twinkling eyes and the ever-present smile. He was a high school friend and was absolutely the best!

Bridget, Heather, and Luke,

Our hearts are indeed saddened by the news of your loss. Rick was a wonderfully caring and generally brilliant man, as we all know. Our memories of time spent with him and yourselves will always be cherished. Be grateful, as are we, for the many seeds of truth and love he sowed in his short time with us here.

Dear Bridget, Heather, Lucas, Gracie, and Family,

We felt very fortunate to have been your next door neighbors on Ferdinand several years ago. We were very sad to learn of Rick's passing as we considered him to be a wonderful neighbor, a gentleman, and a great all-around guy.

The world was a better place because of the way he lived his life. We all will miss him.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers.....

May His Memory Be For a Blessing,
