Gene Revis Obituary

On Sept. 17, 2011, Gene Scott Revis went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family.
Born Oct. 16, 1924, in Le Flore, Okla., near the Winding Stair Mountains. Gene lived and worked the Revis family farm. In 1940, the family moved to Sprague River, eventually settling in Klamath Falls.
In August 1943, he was inducted into the service of his country. Platoon Sgt. Revis of the 158th Infantry Regiment received several medals in the liberation of the Philippines, including the Bronze Service Star and the Purple Heart.
After the war, Gene returned to Klamath Falls, where he met the love of his life Lois Zenor. On Oct. 8, they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Most locals will remember Gene for his tenure with Williams Bakery, where he retired after 38 years. After his retirement, he became an avid bowler and loved being around other bowlers and getting to know them and their families. Gene also loved the being outdoors, especially gardening and hunting, but his passions (besides Lois) were music and his love for his grandchildren. He loved to tease everyone around him.
Gene is survived by his bride Lois; daughter Dawn and her husband Brian Romine of Eugene Ore.; son Scott Revis and his wife Geraldine Revis of Klamath Falls; grandson Ryan Bonham of Lakeview; granddaughter Heather Revis of Klamath Falls; brother Max and his wife Pat Revis of Klamath Falls; his sister Carmen and her husband Norman Collins of Klamath Falls; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Jess and May Revis, brothers Arion and Jim Revis and grandson Matthew Bonham.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation, American Cancer Society and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Special thank you to the High Desert Hospice for the loving care they gave to Gene and support to his family.
A celebration of life will be Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens. Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd is in charge of arrangements.

Gene was a great friend. He delivered bread to every store in this town. We would see each other and set up a time for a break he had the donuts and I had the milk. After he retired the stores in this town missed him big time .Gene was a great man.

This past Friday, I had a dream. It was as though I was my grandpa's service, but he was lying in bed, asleep. I could feel the tears fall, but then he looked up at me, his face brightened by a full grin and, with a wink, squeezed my hand.
All weekend long this wonderful image ran through my mind, and I still can't think about it with dry eyes.

I will always miss Uncle Gene. He was a big part of my life when growing up. I will always remember the apple pies he loved, the milkshake, all the pastries he brought us everyday and most of all sitting on his lap. Uncle Gene always had a smile and made me feel good. I love you all and know how hard his loss will be for all of you. I only wish there was something I could say or do to ease the pain but I know there isn't. Just know I am there for all of you and if you need anything just let me know.

Hi Dawn, I am so sorry for your loss. I did not have the privilege of knowing your Dad, but after reading your wonderful comments it is evident he was well loved and a treasured family member and friend. I know he must have been very special to have such a special daughter. May the Lord bless you during this sad time.

My Dad was a gentle, loving man who smiled at the world...and the world smiled back. He made the sun shine even on the cloudiest of days. Daddy had a beautiful soul that found something good in everyone he met. He was patient in sharing his pearls of wisdom to those around him. My Dad was a caring, supportive man who always gave unselfishly of himself. He was a wise man who exemplified "The Golden Rule" each day. My Dad was generous in giving unselfishly of his time and energy to friends or strangers. He was loyal to his family and friends with limitless bounds. My Dad was courageous, with a very strong sense of honor he demonstrated daily. My Dad was musically talented, and I know God is well pleased in him for using that gift. He was appreciative of the beauty in nature and all that God gave to us. My Dad was respectful of those less fortunate, and he would help without being asked. He was kind to every person...even when they didn't return the kindness. My Dad was happy, with a fun sense of humor that affected everyone in a positive way. He was bright, with a wisdom surpassing what any teacher could provide in education. My Dad was like a breath of fresh air in today's world that we are living. My Dad was the reason "Grand" is in Grandpa...he was the best. He was a faithful man whose love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived his life. My Dad was a humble man who will one day inherit the earth. He was patriotic, loved his country and served it with honor. My Dad was Clint Eastwood...only younger looking. He was dedicated to everything he did...work, family and friends. My Dad was a man of his word. He was the ideal husband, Dad, Grandpa, Son, Brother, Uncle...human being. My Dad was generous in every aspect...he would do without to give to someone else. My Dad was a truly happy person, finding things to smile about even on the darkest day. My Dad loved all creatures...great and small. My Dad was an excellent teacher, always leading by example. He was a wonderful story teller...how I loved his childhood anecdotes. My Dad was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in...for what is right. My Dad was unchanging, and I am so glad because I loved him just the way he was. My Dad was the apple of my eye and the perfect reason as to why I am so proud to be his daughter. My Dad was my stauchest support...kissing my tears away when I was hurting. My Dad was my protector, my defender...and I always knew he loved me. My Dad was someone I could always turn to...I was always "his little girl." My Dad was my ideal of what every man should represent. My Dad was my hero.

When I am gazing at the starlit sky, I think perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven and the love of our lost one shines down to let us know they are with us.

Thank you for everything Daddy. I will always love you.

Your loving daughter,
Dawn

Uncle Gene was the biggest teaser and most soft-spoken of the Revis boys. Our favorite memories are of family gatherings with him and music. Often he would strum his guitar, start singing a song and want those around him to join in to help finish it. He frequently got side-tracked with stories or questions about lives and activities of friends and family gathered around. Many songs were left unfinished as he'd start a new one, with "you know the words for this one, don't you?" If any of the nieces or nephews showed up with an instrument from school, he'd say, "Let me see that for a minute wil you?" After a few minutes of messing around, he'd be producing music. He had an amazing musical gift and sense of fun that he generously shared with others. He exuded a sense of peace and calmness, nearly always smiling and winking as he shared a joke or teased those around him. We rejoice that we had him with us for so long before God called him home, and we cherish our memories of this beloved man. We will miss you, Uncle Gene. Linda, Gene and family.
