Betty Gail Stephens

STEPHENS, Betty Gail, age 64, passed away at her residence on Saturday, July 16, 2016. She was born on June 4, 1952, in Winchester. She was a member of the Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church and served as the church pianist for over 50 years. She was a teacher at Broadview Elementary School for over 35 years. She loved attending church and travelling with her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her father, Robert L. Mitchell and father-in-law, Mannie Stephens. Survivors include her husband, Allen Stephens of Winchester; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Stephen Guess of Toney, Ala.; grandson, Bryant Allen Guess of Toney, Ala.; mother, Cordie Duncan of Winchester; twin brother, Byron (Ann) Mitchell of Winchester; sisters, Ruth (Wayne) Wright of Winchester and Emily (Carl) Judge of Hazel Green, Ala.; and mother-in-law, Cora Lee Stephens of Elora. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Selba Beaty officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester. Betty expressly requested that memorials be made to the Broadview Elementary School Library in lieu of flowers.
