Elmer Henry Goins

1929 - 2016

GOINS, Elmer Henry, age 86, of Kingsport, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at his home. On Oct. 14, 1929, the late Echol and Bessie Lee Fields Goins welcomed the oldest of their five children. Elmer met the love of his life, Edna Massengill and they were married on April 23, 1955. In June 1988, Elmer retired from his lifelong career at Vulcan Materials and Tri Cities Concrete Plant where he was a cement truck driver. After retirement, he and Edna lived for their only granddaughter, Jennifer. In 2002, they moved to Franklin, TN and in 2005, to Winchester, TN to be close to their daughter and granddaughter. In 2014, they moved back to Kingsport due to declining health. Elmer was a faithful member of the Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church for over 50 years and was always the first person to church on Sunday morning and night. After moving to Franklin, he attended Barth Vernon United Methodist Church in Nashville and First Church of the Nazarene in Cowan. Elmer is survived by wife, Edna Go-ins of Kingsport; daughter, Joretta Goins of Kingsport; special niece, Renee Massengill of Kingsport; granddaughter, Jennifer (Casey) Jackson of Winchester; great-granddaughters, Adalynn and Alanna Jackson; sisters, Pauline Herron of Rogersville and Irene (David) Thomas of Choctaw, Ga.; brothers, Albert (Paralee) Goins of Edison and Fred Goins of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Visitation was also held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church in Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Grady Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Park with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
