Jack Taylor

August 9, 1942 - February 19, 2023

Msgt. Jack W. Taylor died on February 19, 2023, at The Hospice House in Bristol. He was born on August 9, 1942, the oldest of seven children. His parents were John and Dorothy Taylor. He served twenty-two years in the United States Air Force and while stationed at Wethersfield, England, and married his wife of 57 years. While in the Air Force, Jack was stationed in Panama City, Florida (Tyndall AFB) and twice in upstate New York. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 and upon returning to the United States was stationed in Loredo, Texas. Prior to serving in Vietnam he spent some time at weapons training in South Carolina. In 1975 he received orders for RAF Alconbury in England for three years. His daughter, Lesley was two and a half years old at the time. He earned many accolades during his service career and numerous commendations.

Jack was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and was in the choir for 37 years. He loved the church and was Junior Warden at one time. Jack was always a willing helper when asked to do things for the church.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1984, Jack worked for years as an outside salesman for kitchens and also owned a Pepperidge Farm franchise. Jack enjoyed working in his garden and fishing and reading.

Jack leaves a wife, Veronica and daughter, Lesley. His siblings are Bill, John, Ann, Linda and Frank, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

The family of Msgt. Jack W. Taylor will have a memorial service, 3 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 760 Cumberland St., Bristol, VA 24201, Sullivan County Animal Shelter, 380 Masengill Rd., Blountville, TN 37617, or a charity of your choice.

I knew Jack to be a great story teller and just "one of the good olde boys from out in the valley". I was shocked to read his obit. The world is a much small place without Jack. I wish Veronica and family Peace and Comfort during these trying times.
