David Driggs Obituary

David Paul Driggs, 63, entered into eternal life Friday, July 13th, 2018 at his childhood home in Denison, surrounded by his beloved family.
Mr. Driggs was born March 9, 1955 in Denison, TX the son of Clyde and Clarice (Mitchell) Driggs. He attended Denison schools and served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. After serving in the military David found his calling as a successful entrepreneur. Over the years and throughout many states, he owned and operated Driggs Jewelry as well as a trucking company that he traveled the country with. It was during his time in the trucking industry that he became an instructor for many years at Grayson College for their truck driving program, however, his most successful venture was the Katmandu Campground in Sturgis, SD. David and his wife Kathy built Katmandu from the ground up, opening for its first Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 2000. Katmandu Campground remained their labor of love for 15 years before their retirement to Concrete, WA.
David had many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing and watching Nascar, he loved traveling, he and Kathy traveled all over the United States in their RV and of course riding motorcycles. David was an avid collector, everything from rocks, a hobby he shared with his brother Robert, to finding hidden treasures on eBay. He had a great love for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, meeting people from all over the world, always welcoming new friends and old alike, each year like a family reunion. But above all, David loved spending time with his family and his precious dog Penny.
David was such an amazing man with a huge heart and a contagious smile. He was all about family and wanting to protect everyone dear to him. His friendship was original and unconditional. No matter where his travels took him or where he lived, he represented everything you would expect from a good ole' Texas country boy. He has made an impact on so many people during his life and will always be with us in our memories and in spirit. Our lives and the world are a better place having known David Paul Driggs.
There are never enough words to express how much David will be missed, but he will never be forgotten. Time may pass and fade away, but memories of you will always stay. Deep in our heart a memory is kept of one we loved and shall never forget. God bless you and keep you in his care until we meet again.
David was a great husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle and friend. In all his travels, and here at home, he had made many friends who will miss him greatly.
David leaves behind his beloved family, wife Kathy Driggs of Denison, TX. Daughter, Jaime Wolf and granddaughters Brooke and Alexis Wolf of Sturgis, SD. Son, Jason Tatum and children Elle and Evan Tatum of Plano, TX. Mother, Clarice Driggs of Denison, TX, niece Robbie Driggs of Denison, TX, niece Monica Stas, husband Ronal and their son Ian Stas of Pottsboro, TX. And many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father Clyde Victor Driggs, brother Robert Clyde Driggs and grandson Ethan Myles Tatum.
Those who knew David well, knew he never liked being the center of attention, and per his wishes, there will be no services. If you would like to honor David you can make a donation in his name to The Gateway Fund for Cancer Research through The Cancer Treatment Centers of America, or if you are a rider, take a ride in his honor, as that was always near and dear to his heart.
Now you walk so bravely, you feel the pain no more. Angels have come to guide you and bring you to Heavens door.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison.

What a wonderful person and friend.
I had the pleasure of meeting David in the early 80s Jack barnett race track, on the Sherman Denison line. Seems as if we bonded right away.we had a little 3 wheeler gang and would hit the races every weekend.
David introduced me to the jewelry repair industry where I attended Paris tx jewelry school and I am still a jeweler to this day. I took a 2year cross country trip with David and the truck, what a wonderful experience David was like a brother to me, and my family loved him too He was a dudes dude A cycle brother a fishing buddie and a all around wonderful person.
I will miss David and I always smile when I think of him
Rest in peace my friend

We met Dave and Kathy when they first opened Katmandu in 2000. They did everything they could to keep everyone happy. Each year there was a new addition to the grounds. Jim and I haven't seen him in years but he will always have a special place in our hearts. RIP. love Jim and Jen from NY / PA

Dave was not just a friend who owned Katmandu, he was family to Sterling and I. We always looked forward to hearing his voice and seeing his smile as we arrived each year. We enjoyed sitting and chatting with him throughout the rally as well as talking to him throughout the year. His salute as we would roll in and out of the campsite continued in our minds even when he was no longer there at the gate. His memory will always be a part of our stay there.

Dave was a loving and caring man who was passionate about veterans who gave of themselves for our country. He always went above and beyond for our family, particularly when we brought our son and his fellow Marines to Katmandu. He had a huge heart and all who knew him felt it.

It saddens Sterling and I deeply that we will not be able to see his face or hear his voice again. He was genuine and loved his family with a passion that was unsurmountable. He will always be in our thoughts and we pray daily for peace to come quickly for Kathy, Jamie, and all of his family that he loved so dearly.

He is at peace now.
He will be greatly missed.
"The Pentagon" on the hill will always remember him.

RIP my friend, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Although I haven't seen him in years, he was a good man. When I would drive by the store over by GCC, I would always think of David.
He always had a quick smile and a warm heart, I would always tease him about being from March to December older than me.
