Harold Erwin Meyer (1931-2024) Harold E. 'Hal' Meyer, 92, of Mukilteo died peacefully at home on February 22, 2024. Hal loved family and flying, these two aspects of him were almost inseparable. He will be remembered for wanting to share his love of flying with those he loved and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Hal was born in the Bronx in 1931 to Harold Earnst Meyer and Ann Louise Meyer (née Barringer). Hal attended Haverford High School in Havertown, PA. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1953, earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. His first job was with Hagen Corporation in Ohio, then followed by service in the Air Force for two years, stationed in Florida. Hal moved to the Seattle area in 1956 to work as an industrial engineer for Boeing. Hal retired in 1991, after 35 years with the company. Hal's time with Boeing included working in both Paris and Soeul, and began his love of international travel.
Hal married Dolores, the love of his life, in Seattle in 1976. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling the world, and especially fell in love with New Zealand where they made many lifelong friends.
Hal was preceded in death by Dolores in 2011. Hal is survived by daughter Michelle, and step-daughter Christine and step-son Jeff. Family was always very important to Hal, and his fondest times were having the house full of family during the holidays.
Hal and Dolores were overjoyed with the arrival of their grandchildren Joey and Robbie, children of Jeff and his wife Sally.
Hal is also survived by his three nieces; Nancy, Sally and Alyson. Hal's nieces were a big part of his life and he especially enjoyed spending time with them during their college years.
After retirement, Hal enjoyed spending time with his fellow pilot friends at Paine Field and going to lunch once a week at the local bowling alley. Hal was very proud to be a member of the United Flying Octogenarians and regularly flew until his mid-eighties.
Hal and Dolores were longtime members of the Congregational Church on Mercer Island, remaining involved even after moving to Mukilteo in 1989.
Outside of his love for Dolores and family, Hal was best known for his passion for flying. He flew for almost 60 years, with much of his flying time as an instructor. Family vacations flying to Montana and California and regular trips to Oshkosh and other fly-ins were among his fondest aviation memories.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 17 at 2:00 pm at the Congregational Church on Mercer Island.

I was married to Hal for 11 years prior to his marrying Dee. We stayed in touch briefly. I was surprised to learn of his passing.

I was grateful to meet Hal at work. Because of Hal's mentoring, I learned to fly airplanes, which made a lot of things at work finally make sense. Hal and Dee also helped me to take my sailboat thru the Ballard Locks one day so that I could sell it. My life was profoundly better having met Hal and Dee, and I am grateful for the moments we shared together.

When Hal was still actively driving, he would stop by my house (when he would see me outside working in my garden) and he would roll down his window and then tell me how much I reminded him of his late wife. I do have some pretty funny driving stories of Hal behind the wheel. ;)
I sure will miss him and I really hope whomever moves into his property doesn't remove all the trees and plants (garden) that he told me how much his late wife loved.
My deepest sympathy goes out to his children, grandkids, nieces and everyone who loves him, may his memories bring you peace, comfort and strength.
Rest In Peace Hal.
