John Fure Obituary

John Stanley Fure of Stanwood, WA passed away on December 4, 2023, at the age of 83, surrounded by his children. He will be remembered as a quiet, kind, humble, strong man who loved his family. His favorite song was The Sound of Silence. He appreciated the quiet of the forest and taught us to hear nature. As a man of not many words, his presence brought us comfort, and when he did speak, we would all listen.

John was born on August 30, 1940, in Ketchikan, AK to Stanley and Ruby Fure (Ranes). He grew up on Lund Rd in Stanwood and attended Stanwood schools. After service as an MIP in the Army he met and married Janet Fure (Boseck) while driving large rocks to Ocean Shores to build the jetty. They started AA Party Rentals in the 1960's and raised their children in Brier, WA. John later married Joyce Fure (Freeze) and after retiring from the party rental business they moved to Bridgeport WA where they ran an over 400-acre ranch until September 2020 when they downsized to 27 acres in Bellingham, WA. They raised cattle, horses, and had many beloved dogs throughout the years.

John had a passion for the outdoors and loved hunting, hiking, horseback riding, and fishing. He spent most summer and winter weekends in the mountains with his children. He was an amazing hunter spent with his son, brother and many other family and friends. He loved spending time on his ranch with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. John loved animals, especially his horses and dogs.

He is survived by his children John (Christine) Fure, Monroe WA; Janelle (Michael) Brookman, Brier WA; stepdaughter Kerry (David) Koons, Duvall WA; and grandchildren Jacob Fure, HI; Taya Fure, NY; Elizabeth Brookman, WA; and step grandchildren Kyle and Austin Koons, WA. John also leaves behind his brothers Ben Fure, Rocky (Evelyn) Fure; nieces, Trista (Brad) Monahan, Danielle Fure; nephew Mike Fure; and many cousins and friends. John is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, nephew Robert Fure, and niece Dayna Fure.

A celebration of life will be held Spring 2024, please reach out to the family for details.

John and Joyce Fure were very good friends of ours when they lived at the ranch above Bridgeport. They became more like family after their home and entire ranch burned. They lived in my sisters home as they tried to recover and relocate. John was a quiet man until we became family and then he was more of a fatherly figure. He loved his wife and family but he also loved his Eagle Rock Ranch. I know that it broke his heart to loose it to such a devastating event and then he lost the love of his life to cancer. I believe it broke him. I believe that he is with Joyce riding together in heaven. Ride high on the mountain my friend and kiss Joyce for me. I love and miss them both.
