Newman Conklin Obituary

Newman Baum Conklin

Newman B. Conklin, 92, passed away on March 8, 2009 in his Edmonds home. He was born January 1, 1917 to David and Dr. Celia (Newman) Conklin in Seattle, WA. Newman was the youngest of three children having two older sisters, Roberta and Winifred. His family moved to Alderwood Manor in 1928. He attended Alderwood Grade School and graduated from Edmonds High in 1934.
Newman loved scouting. He was the first Eagle Scout in South Western Snohomish County and was Scoutmaster of Troup 49 until enlisting in the United States Navy in 1942.
While stationed in Pasco, he met the one true love of his life. Newman and Genevieve Moore were married on January 21, 1945 and had two children, Barbara Shadduck and Gary Conklin. Following the Navy, he enrolled under the G.I. bill at Whitman College, graduating in 1950.
The couple owned and operated Conklin Appliance in Lynnwood. He was a founding Director of the Lynnwood-based City Bank where he served 32 years.
Newman was a Master Mason of Robert Burns Lodge, Past Patron of the Alderwood Chapter of Eastern Star, a Nile Shriner, a Lynnwood Elk, and an Elks travel club member.
Once retired, the couple became "snow birds" traveling to their Palm Springs home on the golf course. Avid travelers, Newman and Genevieve took more than 100 trips together.
Newman leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Genevieve; daughter, Barbara Shadduck (Glenn); and son, Gary Conklin (Jeanne). He was a special grandfather to Tara Shadduck (Steve Wangen), Janette Cline (Paul), Kelsey Bellin (Jesse) and Cheryl Conklin. Stories of his life will be passed on to great-grandchildren Roman and Lucia Shadduck and Austin and Cory Cline. He also leaves Sam Arthur, of Springdale, WA and Jim Ward of Everett, who were raised by his parents.
Donations may be made in Newman's memory to the Alderwood Manor Heritage Association, P.O. Box 2206, Lynnwood, 98036.
Those touched by Newman's life are invited to a celebration of his life from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Everett Golf & Country Club, 1500 52nd Street SE, Everett.

So sorry to hear of Newman's passing. He was a real friend and great companion on our camping expeditions. No one can ever take his place as he was one of a kind, and will be sorely missed.

With love,

So sorry to hear about your loss. I have alot of wonderful memories of all my Mom and Dad's friends from the lodge. Their friendships were kept close for a lifetime. I think that says alot of the character of the people they were.
