Patricia Orsland Obituary

Patricia deLaine Orsland

Patricia deLaine Orsland (Mootz), of Camano Island, WA, was born in the old Arlington Hospital on September 7, 1927 and died peacefully at home on September 6, 2008 a day before her 81st birthday. She was the second daughter of Edward and Alma Mootz.
Patricia enjoyed a full, giving and vibrant life full of service. She was active with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Everett and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Stanwood and also the General Hospital Foundation "Twig Shop" of Everett, the C.I.Q. Quilters of Camano Island, OSLC Martha Circle, and founding member of the Josephine- Lutheran Care Team Ministry.
Patricia graduated from Everett High in 1945, and married Alvin on March 20, 1948, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Everett, WA. She worked for Hart Industries and when Alvin bought H&L Sports in 1948 she helped him as a bookkeeper until her daughter Gretchen was born in 1955, followed by Ann in 1961. In 1978 she helped Alvin start Orsland Sports and continued working with him until their retirement in 1993.
She touched many people in her life with her compassionate and engaging presence. She loved quilting and created some beautiful and award winning quilts. Her quilts went with her to Hawaii, where for 30 years she and Alvin made Kauai and Mokihana a second home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved Juniper Beach and all that went with it.
Patricia is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Alvin Orsland; and was extremely proud of her two daughters, Gretchen Orsland (Randy Hoffmeyer) and Ann Orsland (Jeff Skorupa); grandchildren, Olivia and Hannah Hoffmeyer, Bryn Orsland and Courtney Skorupa; sister, Phyllis (Dick) Wallenberg, of Everett, their son, Todd (Sue) Wallenberg, of Jacksonville, Oregon, and their children, Randy Wallenberg, of Everett, and Tracy and Bruce Sundquist, of Poulsbo, WA, and their children; cousins, Marlene and Ken, Ronnie Miller, of California, Yvonne, Frank, Chuck and Annie; her quilting cousin, Kaaren and Clint Babb, of Arnold, California; and numerous relatives in the US, Canada, and Norway.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 20, 2008, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanwood, with Pastor Mark Bankson presiding. A gathering in the Fellowship Hall will follow.
Al would like to thank all the Juniper Beach community, women of the church, and friends for their heartfelt cards, prayers, and messages of love to Pat. She loved you all. He would also like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at the cardiology department at the Everett Clinic, the people at Providence Home Hospice Care and Brittney from Better Solutions Home Care.

Al and Family,

My sincere sympathy to all of you. I remember when I was a kid, and hanging out at the beach she would always have a kind word and smile to share with all of us. Thank you Pat for all you did for your family and the rest of us at Juniper. You'll be missed by everyone who lives you touched, especially mine. With love and prayers, Susie Billings-Evenson.

Dear Orsland Family,

Your sad loss is heaven's joyful gain. Imagine the loyal Juniper Beach clan as they are reunited, one by one! As her sister Phyllis so aptly said, 'Pat is probably already up to some mischief' and I bet there's a few other neighbors joining in the fun. May there be beach logs in heaven so they can continue to sit and watch their loved one's safety from a magnificent new viewpoint! Here's to friendship, love and laughter in her wonderful memory.

Dear Al and Family:

I will always remember Pat as a gal who was so interested in everyone and everything. She was always so much fun to be with. We go back to times before we were all married.
Love and prayers during these sad times.

Gretchen and family, I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Gretchen, I remember going into H & L to visit you(I think we were in the 6th grade)and I thought it was cool because your mom and I had the same 1st name. I lost my mom in 2003 and it was the hardest thing for me. So I just wanted to tell you that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm sorry for your loss. As a neighborhood kid Pat was always willing to listen to me. She had life and laughter in her eyes and I cannot think about her without smiling. While my son did not have as many discussions with Pat she touched him the same way she reached out to me. We will miss her but we carry a big piece of her as we move forward in life. Thanks for being there Pat.
