Van and Cathy Chapman

Cathy (Weese) Chapman and Van Chapman passed away on October 12, 2023 and October 14, 2023, respectively. They leave behind a family forever shaped by their love, generosity, and hospitality.

Married for 44 years, they built a life rooted in loving care for others and a warm, often humorous relationship. They were one another's soulmates.

In the end, they were not apart for long-each passed from cancer within two days of the other.

They are survived by their daughters Erin Collins and Jessica McKernan; sons-in-law Aaron Collins and Ryan McKernan; grandkids Samuel Collins, Henry Collins, Abbigayle (Abbi) McKernan, Finley Collins and Randy McKernan. Cathy is also survived by her loving father, Richard Weese. They were preceded in death by Cathy's mother, Faye Weese, and Van's parents, Darrell and Marilyn Chapman.

Cathy was a beloved school teacher at Discovery Elementary and delighted in making each child feel special and seen. She was also known for celebrating holidays with gusto and being the most attentive and intentional grandma! Van worked as a machinist in the aerospace industry but his true calling was "Full-Time Prankster." He loved to make people laugh. They especially loved being grandparents and spent every chance they got hosting grandkids for overnights and camping with them.

A Celebration of Life will be held in their honor on April 23, 2026 at Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo, from 5pm-7pm. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you bring a special story or photo of them to share with their grandchildren. We will be building a memory book and memorial video for the kids to enjoy and they will love hearing how you experienced their beloved Gigi and Papu.
