Barbara Jowett Obituary

Barbara Jowett, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday February 1st 2017 in Lake Wylie SC. She was born August 21 1932 in Oelwein, Iowa to the late Dorothy Cunliffe and Max R Clark and was preceded in death by her husband Robert Russell Jowett (Bob) and son Robert Clark Jowett (Bobby). She is survived by her daughter Susan (Steve) Offord, granddaughter Lacey, niece Leigh (Bruce) Cone and nephew John (Lori) Jowett. Her international family includes grandchildren Elizabeth, Robert, Marnie, and Mark and great grandchildren Oran, Oliver, Ethan, Finn and Toby.

Barbara grew up in Iowa graduating from Univ of Iowa, Iowa City where she met her husband. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi. They moved to North Carolina and raised their family. Barbara earned a Master Degree in Early Childhood education from Winthrop University. After moving to River Hills, Barbara had a dream and with the help of Gene Jester, it came to life as the River Hills Preschool founded in 1979. She continued as Director/Teacher helping to shape the lives of many now adults in her community. As a member of P.E.O., she founded local Chapter T and served as president from 1992-94, 2011. Last summer she was recognized as a 65 year member of the organization. Barbara served as a member of the Friends of the York County Library Board of Directors.

Barbara loved life. Thru the years, her passion for golf was replaced with her love of the Carolina Panthers and bridge. If she was not at home, she was probably traveling with family around the world. Her favorite stops included Aruba, Sedona, Singapore, Ireland and of course England her mother's birth place. Her most famous visit was to No 10 Downing Street in London where she met the then Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Barbara is a former member of River Hills Community Church and current member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she sang with the choir.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lake Wylie Library or Grace Presbyterian Church.

Memorial Service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2955 Hwy 160 W, Fort Mill, SC. 29708-8491 at 11am on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Following the service, family will receive friends at the church.
