George Barron Obituary

George Talbert Barron, 81, died of Alzheimer's Disease Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Westminster Health Center. The burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6 at Laurelwood Cemetery with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at First ARP Church. Dr. Barry Dagenhart will officiate. Family will receive visitors following the service.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Barron was the son of the late Robert Edwin Barron, Jr., and Gladys Talbert Barron.

Mr. Barron was a graduate of Winthrop Training School and a 1960 graduate of Pfeiffer College.

He was a special agent with the U.S. Treasury Division of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, stationed in Clarksdale, Miss., Jacksonville, Fla., and Columbia, S.C., until his retirement in 1987. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was an elder at First ARP Church. He was an avid sportsman and loved nature and the outdoors.

Mr. Barron married the former Susan Helen Griggs on June 24, 1961.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. George Talbert Barron, Jr., and wife, Ashley, of Rock Hill; his son, Robert Griggs Barron, and wife, Almand, of Columbia; his daughter, Louise Barron Reynolds, and husband, Douglas, of Columbia; his sister, Louise Barnes of Rock Hill; his grandchildren George Talbert Barron, III, Mary Alexander Barron Mills, Catherine Almand Barron and Laurel Napier Reynolds and his beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Robert Edwin Barron, III.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Golden Johnson and the staff at Westminster Health Center and Hospice Care of South Carolina.

Memorials may be made to the general fund of First ARP Church 201 East White St. Rock Hill, SC 29730. Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel is serving the family. Condolences may be made online at www.greenefuneralhome.net.
