Alvin Carter Obituary
Durham
Alvin J. "AJ" Carter died peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on July 19th, 2018.
AJ was born November 15th, 1950 in Brooklyn NY to the late James Arthur & Edna Louise Carter. He graduated from Queens College in Flushing, NY with a Bachelor's degree in 1977.
AJ spent 25 years with the Durham Police Department and retired as a Lieutenant. After retirement he spent 13 more years as the Captain of the NCCU Police Department where he was employed until his passing.
AJ's greatest passion was teaching and preaching The Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served faithfully as Senior Associate Pastor at Greater Emmanuel Full Gospel Baptist Church.
AJ will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Beverly, his children, Alesha and Jeremy (Alexis) and his 3 grandchildren, Carter, Jaden, and Marley. He will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings James (Bernice), Melvin (Wanda), Bernard and his sister Sandra and a host of other family and friends.
Homegoing service will be on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at First Calvary Baptist Church, 1311 Morehead Ave. at 12 noon, visitation at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Greater Emmanuel Full Gospel Baptist Church, 4124 Fayetteville St. Durham, NC 27703.
Arrangements entrusted to Holloway Memorial Funeral Home.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Carter family. I worked with AJ for many years with the Durham Police Department. He was a teacher, mentor and fantastic friend. AJ always had kind words to say whenever you ran into him and greeted you with that contagious smile and laugh. AJ will be missed by all.
