Elisabeth "Betty" Ralston Moore

Raleigh, North Carolina - Elisabeth "Betty" Ralston Moore, 93, of Raleigh, N.C., passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born on June 15, 1931, in Petersburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Woodson Tucker Ralston and Gertrude Thomas Ralston of Washington, N.C. As a teenager, she spent many happy summers crabbing and sailing on the James River. Betty attended Mary Baldwin College, Longwood College, and Pan American Business School. She worked for the Red Cross relief effort after Hurricane Hazel. She held many jobs over the years from the Globe Department Store in Petersburg to her final, and favorite position, working for the City of Raleigh's Financial Department, where she retired at the age of 79.

Betty was an active member of The Church of the Good Shepherd for many years and volunteered and participated in multiple facets. An avid bridge player and knitter, Betty loved the beach and having her family all together. She loved her dogs and the constant love and companionship they provided. Following Appalachian and Carolina sports was a favorite past time of Betty's. One of her greatest joys in life was being a grandmother. She was the quintessential southern lady, loved by many people of all ages. In her later years she became a fan of Wii bowling and a proud member of the team at The Cardinal at North Hills.

Surviving are son, Peter Allstatt Moore, Jr. and wife Anna Wells Moore of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Elisabeth Moore Whitener and husband John Richard Whitener of Bolivia, N.C.; granddaughters, Elisabeth Elliott Whitener, Anne Thomas Whitener, and Anna Elisabeth Moore; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 125 Hillsborough St. Raleigh, NC, with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, October 21, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh.
