Rocky Mount, North Carolina - Logan Matthew Barnes, born in Rocky Mount on September 15, 1995, passed away at home following a 6.5 year battle with Ewing's Sarcoma on Saturday, August 3, 2024. He was 28 years old. Logan was the son of Tiffany Mewborn Barnes of Rocky Mount and Luther Matthew Barnes, IV (Matt) of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Daughtridge Barnes.

Logan grew up in Rocky Mount and graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High in 2014. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his BS in Physics in 2019. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity and he worked for Top of the Hill while attending UNC, developing a love of craft beer brewing and making lifelong friends. He received his Master's of Science in Analytics from North Carolina State University in 2022 and began his career with the Financial Risk Group in Cary.

Logan was a friend to all. He had a quiet demeanor, a quick and dry wit, was kind, thoughtful, passionate and determined. He loved his family and friends. Logan was a loyal Tar Heel and made sure to wear his Tar Heel apparel while receiving treatments at Duke and earning his Master's at State. He enjoyed trips to Disney World, Universal Studios, the Atlantis, Bahamas, cruises, family beach trips and being down in Beaufort, NC. Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving were cherished family traditions. Logan became the family member to carry on the homemade Eggnog tradition with his own special tweaks.

Logan is survived by his mother, Tiffany; father, Matt; sister, Mary "Allison" Barnes of Rocky Mount; grandfather, L.M. Barnes, III of Rocky Mount; grandfather, Doug Mewborn of Greenville; aunt and uncle, Margaret "Meg" Barnes Cooke and husband, Harry, of Greenville; first cousins, Ashley Cooke Eatmon, and husband, Cameron, and their daughter Emerson, of Greenville, Will Cooke and wife, Elizabeth, of Greenville, many special great aunts, uncles, cousins and his beloved dog, Finley.

A Celebration of Logan's Life will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount, 153 N. Church St., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. John Winings officiating. A visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall until 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Logan's memory to the Case Management Patient Care Fund at Duke University Health System for pediatric oncology patients.
