Born to Nellie & Kelso G. Lodge in Philippi West Virginia; October 12, 1925. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Martha Alice Lodge-Post.
Left to cherish his memory is his adoring wife of 40 years Suzette, daughters Suzan of Connecticut, Deborah of S. Carolina, Michelle of New York and Johnna of Atlanta his most dedicated daughter.
John's favorite quote throughout his lifetime was:
There are three kinds of people in this world
Those who make things happen
Those who watch things happen
Those who have no idea what happens
John claimed the first category as his life's direction.
John enlisted in the Marines and served proudly in the South Pacific during WWII. Despite his lack of formal schooling, John had an innate-acumen for business that drove his passions and careers down many diverse paths. From cattle and dairy to oil and gas distribution industries of the serene farmlands of West Virginia, to the high finance of the Wall Street stock market, which eventually lead him to Florida where he started his own brokerage firm and eventually expanded into real estate development.
John's passions were many. A generous philanthropist to numerous causes, universities, events and people. His love of world travel and experiencing its cultures and lessons was always enjoyed. Of course every man has a love of automobiles and John was no exception; with his love of his Rolls Royce collection that spanned nearly 4 decades.
People who truly knew John, thought of him as one of kind, with a sharp and sometimes wicked sense of humor.
The family wishes to thank John's caretaker Jorge Rosario. John's nurse and constant companion his last 3 years. Due to Jorge's resolve, incredible loyalty and skills enable John to thrive till the end; which were observed and greatly appreciated by everyone.
John's remains will be buried with honors at the Sarasota National Cemetery, and the family plot at Mary's Chapel in Philippi West Virginia. An intimate gathering of family and close friends will be held on the 31st of January at The Oaks Country Club in Osprey Florida.
Charitable contributions are his wishes; and may be made to 'Paws for Patriots' in care of Southeastern Guide Dogs. 4210 77th St. East, Palmetto FL 34221
