Marjorie Milas Obituary

Milas, Marjorie Weiser
Feb. 9, 1939 - Jan. 2, 2011

Marjorie Weiser "Margie" Milas, 71, of Longboat Key, formerly of Northport, N.Y. died Jan. 2, 2011.
Services were held Jan. 6, 2011 at Temple B'Nai Israel, Southbury, Conn. Arrangements by Toale Brothers Funeral Homes.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence W.; daughters Betsy Treiber of Easton, Mass. and Wendy Zullo of Middlebury, Conn.; son Scott C. of Torrington, Conn.; sister Sheila Weiser of Longboat Key; and nine grandchildren.
Margie was born in the Bronx, N.Y. and grew up in Cedarhurst, N.Y. She and husband Larry were married in 1958.
She was devoted to Larry, their three children and nine grandchildren. She had a special fondness for children and volunteered for many years as an assistant teacher in day care centers in New York City and Long Island, touching the lives of many disadvantaged children with ready love and mentoring. As a highly competent boater she sailed the waters from Maine to the Bahamas. Margie was also a talented and life-long tap dancer who, as a child, appeared professionally on early prime time TV variety shows, including the Milton Berle Show. She was an avid golfer. Her many friends delighted in her great sense of humor and company.
Margie was a muse to Larry in the founding of Olin College and is considered by many to be the spiritual mother of that institution.
Although of petite size, Margie was rarely overlooked in a crowd. She was highly principled and outspoken about any injustices and incivilities she perceived, yet she also had an unlimited capacity to forgive.
To say she will be remembered and loved by her family and her many friends is like saying the sun will rise in the morning.

To the family of Margie,
We'd like to express our condolences with the passing of Margie. It was always such a pleasure ,over the years to see her happy face when search of a new battery for her watch, or a new bauble for some special occasion. She had a smile that we all will miss very much. We share in your sorrow.
Sincerely,
