Susanne Balkin Obituary
April 23, 2012
Susanne Weil Balkin, of University Park, and previously of Little Rock, Ark., and Chicago, Ill., died on Monday, April 23. She was the devoted mother of four sons: Jeffrey (Randee), Robert (Tzinia), Mark (Ellen) and Richard (Melissa) and the proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren: Jordan, Victoria, Andrew, Joshua, Abigail, Camila, Gabriela, Miguel, Alejandro and Isabel. She is also survived by her brother Charles Meier (Marilyn).
One of her first memories was of Kristallnacht and of her family's escape from Nazi Germany. In America, she was recruited for leadership in Jewish community organizations wherever she lived. She will be missed as well by her fiercely loyal and dear friends.
A Memorial Service for Susie will be held at Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 27.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood, Hadassah, URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp or any charity whose goals match those inspired by Susie's life.

"Aunt Susie" was the consummate Mama Bear, since nothing was more important to her than her four boys, and she was a loving, doting grandmother. Her larger-than-life personality will be missed.

Growing up, Aunt Susie was like a second mother to my brothers and I. She touched a lot of lives and will be missed many.

Our Aunt Susie was a wonderful woman who I have so many great memories of. What I remember most is how fiercely she loved her boys. She will be very much missed.
