RIP in sweet beautiful peace. I was a young man and you invited me to your office in nyc. You didn’t know about JeanPaul Gaultier and I sent you pictures of myself in JPG menswear/clothing.
You were very welcoming of me and very nice when I came to visit you. You introduced me to Quentin at Fernando Sanchez and him and I became friends. Somewhere I guess maybe there are pictures of me in your archives. It was a pleasure meeting you and thank you for helping me with my modeling career. Smile down on me from heaven.

ere’s to one of the world’s most fabulous, unapologetic pioneers in the fashion industry from Durham, NC. Such an inspiration to me to reach higher in my career. I reminisce on his commencement address at my graduation at SCAD Atlanta in May 2008, watching us walk across the stage, eyeing our walk and shoe game in grad robes receiving our degrees!
I was also happy to attend his documentary premier at SCAD as well and hear him speak, donning his signature caftan with Gucci slippers! May you Rest In Peace. Praying for his family and friends. Another great legend gone who helped change the world.

He dared to tread where no other Black man had gone and mentored some of the top designers and models in his role as editor of Vogue. Rest Easy Andre'. Well done! Generations of black designers are inspired to follow your example and create their own niche in the fashion world. Thanks for kicking the door open.

Fortunate to have lunched with Andre on a few occasions at City Limits Diner in White Plains, NY where he frequented often. We had some nice small talk chats. I’d see him occasionally in other Westchester venues and he’d always recognize me with a big hello.

Thankful for the encouragement from Mr. Talley. While I didn't get to know him on a personal level, his knowledge of the fashion industry was awe-inspiring. I'm sure that my being raised in Alabama, and the fact that I am a music and literary artist and an aspiring fashion designer, as well as a former NYU student, was the connection. I have a great memory of Andre in CLE from decades ago when he worked with my mother's church to put on a fashion show fundraiser at the YWCA. He was so positive and encouraging. That remains one of the most experiences of my life. May he rest in eternal peace.

This may be overlooked-Andre Leon Talley was a voice for what was right and he repeated his heritage. He was the first voice to condemn another artist for the blasphemous way he depicted Harriet Tubman on a internet channel. We spoke about it and his conviction for what was right and clear was unwavering. We shared a favorite and became instant friends. I shall him but the essence of this man will not be forgotten.
