Array O. Hollar

NEWTON - Array Odell Hollar, 101, of Newton, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born May 5, 1906, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Lonnie Hollar and Ina Lael Hollar. Mr. Hollar was the retired owner of Scales Furniture Co. He was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where he held many offices. He was the last living charter member of Catawba Country Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christina Self Hollar; son, Richard Jonas Hollar; brothers, Cecil, Harold, Howard and Fred Hollar; and sisters, Merlie Eckard and Ethel Yount. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Kincaid and husband, Sam, of Newton; son and daughter-in-law, Larry A. Hollar and wife, Frances, of Newton; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Thelma Snipes of New York and Willie Mae Bolch of Hickory. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Newton, with the Rev. Gustav Sittmann officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 612 South College Ave., Newton, N.C. 28658.
