November 3, 1938 - January 2, 2024
Dr. Charles Francis Scheide, Sr., 85, of Hickory, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Carolina Caring.
Born November 3, 1938 in Atlantic City, he was the son of the late Charles Ferdinand Scheide and Ruth Russell Scheide.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna Slavin Scheide.
Dr. Scheide spent his career not only in churches but also speaking in many countries worldwide. He served as pastor in the following churches: Perth Bible Church, Perth, NY, First Baptist Church, Pontiac, MI, Faith Bible Church, Vineland, NY, and Mt. View Baptist Church, Hickory, NC.
He also served as Dean of Students at Word of Life, Hudson, FL.
Dr. Scheide enjoyed coaching High School Baseball, which included coaching his sons and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Honor at Cairn University, Philadelphia, PA.
He is survived by his three children: Christine Scheide Tonielli and husband Wade, Chuck Scheide, and George Scheide; brother, Lee Scheide; sisters, Ruth Ann Lane, June Scheide; brother-in-law, Jeremy Slavin; three sisters-in-law: Judy Slavin, Joy Slavin and Marge Scanlin; and a grandson, Max Scheide.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2024 at Oxford Baptist Church in Conover, NC, with the Rev. Joel Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

I did not know the good doctor but knew his wife Johanna. We grew up at Faith Community Church in Roslyn pa. Rev Slavin was our pastor and my golfing partner. Chuck played the trumpet and performed at Youth For Christ rallies in Doylestown and Glenside.

A great, yet humble man of God. He was my theology professor at WOLBI Schroon Lake in 1977. So kind and he left a strong impression on me of what the true Christian walk should look like. Blessings and condolences to his family. He walks with Jesus now.

I was sad to hear about Pastor Scheide passing away! However I know our parents John and Frieda Frasier were welcoming with open arms! So many good memories with Chrissy coming to play at our house when my parents had your family for dinner! We always enjoyed company!
