William Judd Scheide, 93, of West Hartford, beloved husband of the late Frances (D'Abate) Scheide, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025. Bill was born on April 14, 1931, in Hartford to the late Lester B. and Elizabeth (Judd) Scheide. He graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1949 and attended the University of Connecticut, where he was a varsity soccer goaltender. Before he could receive his degree, Bill joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country in the Korean War. He later graduated from the University of Hartford in 1967. He was employed by Travelers Insurance Company for 30 years before working for the CT Section of the PGA for 7 years. He was a dedicated member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 19 Hartford, Moose Lodge 723 Hartford, American Legion Post 96 Hartford, and the V.F.W. Post 254 Hartford. Bill was a long-time fan of the NY Mets, NY Giants, and Hartford Whalers. He was an avid golfer and bowler and spent many seasons umpiring local baseball games.
Alongside his wife and parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother Edward B. Scheide, his stepfather Roderick G. Mackenzie, and his beloved friend Geraldine J. Murphy.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at LG Infinite Care, as well as the staff from The McAuley in West Hartford, for their kindness and compassion.
Friends and relatives are invited to gather on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield.
