Daniel Duncan Obituary

Daniel Wallace Duncan

September 20, 1948 - June 26, 2024

Daniel Wallace Duncan, 75, of Valdese, passed away suddenly yet peacefully on June 26, 2024, at his home with his loving wife of 55 years by his side. He was born on September 20, 1948, to Wallace William Duncan and Louise Teel Duncan. Though he spent most of his adult life living atop Mineral Springs Mountain, he was born in Atlanta, GA, and grew up in Charlotte, NC.

After high school, Dan joined the Army and bravely served our country in the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, he married the love of his life, Linda Smith Duncan, and eventually moved to the foothills of North Carolina, where Valdese has been their home for the last 50 years. Dan and Linda met each other at church camp when they were both 14 years old, and it was love at first sight for each of them. They were blessed with two children, Heather Lauren Duncan of Charlotte, NC, and Josh Daniel Duncan of Mount Pleasant, SC.

He was known for his sense of humor and his ability to find joy in everyday moments. Some favorite memories include his love of 60's and 70's music and his knack for mischief. He was in his element when he was in the garage restoring classic cars and he loved visiting car shows.

Dan enjoyed a celebrated career in the automotive paint business, forming lifelong friendships with fellow car enthusiasts. He retired from PPG Industries in 2013.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Louise Teel Duncan and Wallace William Duncan, as well as his brother, John Alan Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughter, Heather; his son, Josh; his daughter-in-law, Lindsay; his granddaughter, Adelynn; his brothers, Jim Richard Duncan (Lee), Bradford William Duncan (Parichart); his sisters-in-law, Lisa (John Duncan) and Judy Pressley (Jerry); surviving nieces and nephews, Trey Campbell (Martha), Crystal Davison (Greg), Nicole Ierardi (James), Laura, Samantha and Logan; and surviving great-nieces and nephews, Jackson, Emersyn, Remi, Lucas, Max and Cora.

A celebration of life with close friends and family will be held at a future date. He was well-loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
