Edwin C. Lundquist

HICKORY - Edwin Carl Lundquist, 78, of Hickory, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Edwin Isadore Lundquist and Margaret Estes Lundquist. Mr. Lundquist served 23 years in the U.S. Army. He was in the Airborne/Special Forces, served in Korea during the Korean war and was a POW for 23 months. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam. His hobbies included photography, computer technology and woodworking, and he especially loved spending time with his family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Elizabeth Lundquist of the home; two sons, Guy Edwin Lundquist of Granite Falls and Donald Eric Lundquist and wife, Claire, of Fort Mill, S.C.; four daughters, Karen Elizabeth Jarrett and husband, Park, of Dripping Springs, Texas, Rebecca E. Winebarger and husband, Rick, of Granite Falls, Nancy Lynn Coleman of Dallas, N.C., and Joni E. Jordan of Claremont; a sister, Margaret McInerney of Wilmington, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Jeff Burkhimer officiating.
