Harry Frye Obituary

Harry F. Frye, born on May 4, 1938.
Passed away on November 7, 2024.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, Harry Monroe Frye, and mother, Kate Irene.
Left to cherish his legacy are his wife of 54 years, Cheryl Hoke Frye; daughter Katherine Frye; and granddaughter, Ellenora.
Many nieces, nephews, former students, and athletes loved listening to his sports stories and will miss him dearly.
Coach Frye was inducted into the NC Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame and, in 2002, the Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame. In 2000, the community dedicated the new baseball field at St. Stephens High School in honor of a lifetime of commitment to students and athletes.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 10th at 4 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. There will be no receiving.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SSHS Harry Frye Athletic Scholarship Fund; SSLC Lunch Box Fund; or SSLC Building Fund. All checks may be sent to St. Stephens Lutheran Church (Mo. Synod).

Coach Frye was a man to be looked up too. Don´t think he knew my name was Todd. He always called me Lil´ Benjy! Which is my older brother. When my dad passed away, Coach Frye reached to me with the most comforting words. We all loved our Coach Frye. Rest in our Saviors arm now, Coach. 4th Quarter is over with, now you can claim the largest victory ever!

Mr. Frye was my math teacher in 8th grade at College Park! He was the BEST He Will sure be missed! RIP and condolences to his family

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, the St. Stephens community and high school sports in the Hickory area.
Coach Frye's impact on Catawba County sports just can't be fully measured... he cared about kids, colleagues, old sportswriters, etc.
When I first entered journalism, the late Dan Richards gave me a list of people he wanted me (then 18) to observe and work closely with ... he said that experience would teach me how to be a good man,
Coach Frye was high on that list as we built a friendship that lasted for nearly 50 years... and I still and will always think about him (and my list).
I will always run down my list as in "What would Harry do?
Our last conversations were to make plans for dinner when both of us were through with doctors and feeling better.
Such a good man...RIP my baseball buddy!
