LENOIR - Ivanna Smith Beane, 90, of Connelly Springs Road, Granite Falls, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, Tuesday, March 17, 2009.
Mrs. Beane was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Burke County to the late Green Smith and Virginia McCall Smith.
She was a graduate of Hudson High School and attended Caldwell Community College, earning her degrees in CNA I and II. She retired from Valdese Hospital after working there 29 years.
In the early years of her marriage, she joined Mountain Grove Church and was a faithful member for more than 70 years. She taught beginner, primary and adult Sunday school classes. She also was a leader of the YWA and the Sunbeams and a member of the WMU.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray B. Beane; her brothers, Gaither, Willard and Guy Smith; and her sisters, Daisy Shell, Pansy Smith, Violet Pressley and Evelyn Benfield.
Survivors include her sons, Ron Beane and wife, Christine, Wayne Beane and wife, Sylvia, Jerry Beane and wife, Joyce, and Lowell Keith "Butch" Beane, all of Granite Falls; her daughter, Kathleen Curtis and husband, Carroll, of Granite Falls; her grandchildren, Renee B. Jones, Paige B. Harris, Scott Beane, Jeff Beane, Tyler Curtis, Gavin Beane, Wes Beane, Kenneth Beane and April C. Jacob; and her great-grandchildren, Peyton and Keegan Beane, Allyson and Andy Harris, Sierra Beane and Carter, Dawson and Isaac Beane.
The service for Mrs. Beane will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Mountain Grove Church, with Dr. Clifton Black and the Revs. Sam Craven and John Brashear officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at Pendry's Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday school class, Wayne Bolick, Audrey Smith and Gail Elrod, and Becky Effler and Paris Black (special caregivers).
