To the Cheves Family
Please accept our deepest condolences as we have all lost a treasured member of our lives. it was thru my father, Ace Black that I got to know Joe at a very early age; it was him that taught me the beauty of the game of golf. And what a teacher....to this day i am told that I must have had a very good teacher.
I know these are sad times for you, but as with my father, soon you will remember Joe and smile.
I know he and dad, with too many other friends we have lost, are enjoying golf in paradise.
we will never forget you.

The Cheves Family: Our family's thoughts and prayers are with you. Pro had a great life and helped so many people. I like to think that he's helping Fred Patton with his golf swing at this very moment.

We loved Joe and the family, and always loved having them come to our family reunions.(He always brought big bags of mountain apples to share) The main thing that I loved about him was his gentle spirit and caring attitude about everyone else. He was one of my Dad's favorite cousins and I loved hearing the stories about when they were growing up in South Carolina. Please know that I am with you today in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep the first Sunday in May and the lst Sunday in October open on your calendars and keep in touch! Love you, Donna <><

Mrs. Cheves and family, We offer our deepest sympathies and blessings to each one of you during this time. "Pro" was a true professional in all aspects. He always took time with you, regardless of who you were and he always would offer help if asked. He especially loved to work with the youth and has touched many lives. His most courteous attitude and professionalism will remain with our family forever. May God bless you all.

To Martha and the family...
Joe was a breath of fresh air...a smile and a hug when you needed it...a wonderful teacher and ambassador of the game he loved. I feel privileged to have known him and to be able to say he was my friend. I'll never forget him. May you find peace and comfort in all your memories.

Mrs. Cheves and family: "Pro" was one of the finest gentlemen we have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. He was always smiling and had a good word for everyone. He worked with my golf swing at Mimosa and gave our daughter, Jessica, lessons which helped her game immensely. Our prayers are with you and your family. Morganton has lost a true gentleman, friend, and legend.
