John Rogers Obituary

John Rogers

September 10, 1964 - September 16, 2024

John Pierce Rogers, of Shelby, N.C., passed away suddenly on September 16, 2024. Born September 10, 1964, in Hickory, N.C., he was the son of the late Charles Allen Rogers and Anne Boyd Rogers. With a lifelong passion for Scouting, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Shelby where he spent time as an usher, member of the Vestry, and participated in the Towel ministry. He participated in Boy Scout leadership, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 107 out of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He will be remembered a thoughtful person and child of God.

He graduated from Hickory High School where he ran cross country before attending The University of North Carolina Charlotte. He graduated with a degree in hydrology and began his career working in the field of geology. He retired from NCDOT after 25 years of loyal service.

He is survived by a son, Andrew John Rogers, of Shelby; brothers, Charles Allen Rogers, Jr and wife Lee, Ross Edwin Rogers and wife Nancy, both of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews.

He had a special relationship with his son Drew. One of his proudest moments was seeing Drew obtain his Eagle Scout rank. Together, they enjoyed scouting, camping, and Panthers football. They often shared the mutual interests of watching all sports and sharing pizza.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Redeemer Episcopal Church in Shelby, N.C.

I enjoyed listening to John's incredible truths about life. He has taught me so much about our precious lives here on earth because of his experience, strength and hope he shared with so many! My sincere condolences to his family and friends and he will be missed but I will always remember the things he taught me are priceless.
