Jonathan Mott Obituary

Jonathan David Mott

June 8, 1975 - November 13, 2023

Jonathan David Mott left this world on 11/13/23. Born June 8, 1975 in Omaha, Nebraska where he was lovingly placed in the arms of his new adoptive parents three days later. Jon leaves behind his parents, Kathleen and Donald Mott, brothers Christopher and Michael and sister Christina as well as cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Jon was a gift that was given to us to share with the world. He will be remembered most for his quick and witty humor, intelligent conversation, as well as his ability to take on most any academic pursuit presented to him. He may be remembered best by some of his friends for his political blog "Zandar vs the Stupid" of which he was most proud. He had a veracious appetite for knowledge even at the earliest age and astounded many adults with his knowledge of all things. He was in placed in advanced placement classes in school, and as well attended the gifted and talented program at Duke University over several summers. He graduated High School from the School for Science and Math in Durham, NC and attended UNC Asheville. His work took him to Kentucky where he has spent the most of his time and the last of his days

Jon took life as it came. He lived life on his own terms and died peacefully in his sleep in his Kentucky home. He will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Any memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

I played with Zandar quite a few times in Final Fantasy XIV. He was always humorous to talk to online and made everyone laugh! Definitely a grade A friend and a very witty joker. He will be missed.

I enjoyed interacting with him over the internet for years, though I never got to meet him in person. I am so sorry for your loss.

Among his many unsung talents was to talk up a complete stranger like me and make me feel welcome in a group that would become my sanity space and second home for 10 years. A genuinely bright soul that I will miss terribly.

I know we never met in real life and he will always be Zandar to but I enjoyed talking to him and playing with him for the last 14 years. He was a loved member of our online gaming community and will be dearly missed.

I knew Jonathan as Zandar for over a decade through games. I consider myself lucky to have known him, and will terribly miss his quick wit, sardonic humour, and magnanimity. My condolences to his friends and family.

Never knew "Zandar's" real name. I, and others in his online gaming community, have played games with him for over 14 years. Zander has a large collection of online friends. Many of which, up until today, didn't know his real name and didn't care. Hours were spent tackling bosses , solving puzzles, laughing, and talking. I, like many others had never met Z in person, but we were all his friends. Zandar was and always will be a Paladin in heart and action.

Another gaming buddy of Zandar´s as we lovingly knew him. It´s such a strange honor to know someone for so long and not know anything about their personal lives at all. No problems, no drama, just jokes and killing monsters. What a wonderful person and soul. Will truly be missed in our little orbit.

I knew him as Zander and we gamed together for 10 something years. He was best tank and also did the best Meteor voice in FFXIV. He will be incredibly missed.

Jonathan 'Zandar' Mott was a true leader. He would pick up the task and carry it onwards to greater things. Yes, like Sage, I only knew Zandar as that gaming stalwart and friendly, if not, witty voice of reason. Thank you Z for all the times spent with us. Dragonspeed to your next adventure as we carry your memories forward. Deepest condolences to his family, yet please know he will always be a bright soul to reflect on us all.

I knew Jonathan as Zandar for the better part of a decade, and spent thousands of hours with him gaming online. He was an amazing leader, able to herd the most stubborn of cats, and his wit and presence brought so much joy. I can't put into words how much his absence hurts and will hurt, but I'm going to do the best I can to carry the best parts of him with me into the future.

I've played videogames with Zandar for almost 15 years through countless games together and he was always the best Tankdad and the Master of Culinarians. He will be sorely missed and my deepest condolences to his family.

Dear Kathy and Don,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Although I did not know your son, from the obituary he sounded like a very extraordinary and gifted person. As parents, the two of you provided the foundation which allowed him to grow and follow his own path in life. You have done your job. He is now in God's hands and his journey continues. God's peace to all of you.
Sincerely, Bonnie Walker

I knew Jonathan as 'Zandar' when he was front paging at Balloon Juice. I always looked forward to his articles. He was so profound in what he saying, as well as being darned funny. I wish I had been able to meet this young man in 'meatspace'. My deepest condolences to his loving family. He truly was one of a kind!

I was a reader of Zandar versus The Stupid for several years. He was always informative, always on top of the issues. And he had a great sense of humor. Your loss is huge, I know. But know that there are many out there who appreciated his work.

Deepest sympathies to Jon's family on his passing. I have worked with Jon over the past few years. We would sometimes share comments about movies and tv shows we were watching; Jon would use references and gifs to highlight some current happening or request. He was a kind soul and he will definitely be missed by many.
