Violet Cornelius

Violet Cornelius TERRELL Violet Drum Cornelius, 90, of Terrell passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Sherrills Ford Hospice House. Born Feb. 3, 1923, in Catawba County, to the late Lock and Mettie Drum. Miss Violet was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church, she taught infants and toddlers, in Sunday school, for many years, as well as the Worship Service Nursery, and was a member of the church choir. She was a long time employee of Troutman Shirt and "Miss Violet" provided child care, to numerous children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.D. Cornelius; brothers, Paul Drum, Cletus Drum and Lowell Drum; and sisters, Louise Caldwell, Bertie Caldwell and Nell Drum. Survivors include her son, Joe Cornelius, of Sherrills Ford; daughters, Treva C. Miller and husband, Terry, of Cary, Nancy C. Hicks and husband, Winfred, of Maiden and Peggy C. Harwell and husband, John, of North Wilkesboro; brother, Marvin Drum, of Newton; sisters, Pearl Hicks, of Newton, Jewell Austin, of Ohio, Natine Lineberger and husband, Danny, of Maiden and Betty Drum, of Newton; grandchildren, Andrea M. Johnson and husband, Lloyd, Stacy Hicks and wife, Amber, Derek Harwell and wife, Kat, Shawn Harwell and wife, Gretchen and Marcie H. Foster and husband, Jonathan; and great-grandchildren, Jessica Johnson, Lawson Hicks, Emma Hicks, Violet Harwell, Ingrid Harwell, Jon Luke Foster and Kaylin Foster. A Service of Remembrance will be held Wednesday, July 17, at 11 a.m., at Rehobeth UMC, in Terrell. Dr. Robert L. Kerr will officiate. Burial will follow, in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday, July 16), from 6 to 8 p.m., at Rehobeth UMC, in Terrell. Pallbearers are David Abernethy, Donald McClain, Erik Drum, Josh Drum, Ed Fisher and Dwayne Harvey. Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Abernethy, Chad Edwards and Charles P. White.
